Does it tase ok just mushing banana's and strawberrys?

thinking of getting one as dd's eat quite a bit of fruit

But can't spend much on one, any cheaper ones that are good?

no never add sugar. it never occurred to me to be honest

wickedwaterwitchhaspmt · 22/01/2007 19:33

no, don't add sugar
just fruit and/or veg
a mixer would do the job as well, you don't have to buy a juicer

wurlywurly · 22/01/2007 19:33

i wouldnt add sugar, maybe a fruit yoghurt or even a plain one tho.

MerlinsBeard · 22/01/2007 19:33

No sugar.
Perhaps a bit of apple juice if the smoothie comes out too thick.

anniebear · 22/01/2007 19:35

thanks

I wouldnt put sugar in myself, but I am sure I read some smoothie idea's once and they put it in

think it kinda defeats the object really

Thanks

we stocked up on the smoothie packs from tesco (99p, usually £1.99 i think)when they were on offer, 4 packs of frozen fruit per bag, each pack when added with pure squeezed juice would make 4 glasses. as it was frozen fruit it was like have slushies. oh they were nice.

we have a kenwood smoothie maker i think. but i think a good quality blender would work.

pianist · 22/01/2007 19:38

Smoothies are supposed to be healthy, so of course no need to add sugar! I've just bought a new juice maker, but actually I think a blender/smoothie maker is better becuase you get more of the fruit!

Kbear · 22/01/2007 19:39

I've just made smoothies for me and DH just now - Tesco frozen summer fruits, a banana and cranberry juice. Delish.

No to sugar.

You could also make them with natural yoghurt and frozen fruit.

Or tinned peaches and orange juice.

Today I bought a watermelon - I'm going to cut it up and freeze it in chunks to throw in the blender for watermelon smoothies. Not sure what juice to put with that.

We love 'em!

Spidermama · 22/01/2007 19:41

I also add oats and ground almonds to fill them up at breakfast. I've just inherited a great food processor from my brother so my smoothies are actually smooth.

No sugar. Bananas and apples should be sweet enough.

SueW · 22/01/2007 19:41

Asda have some great ready made smoothies - from whole fruit, not concentrate - which are a fraction of the price of innocent smoothies.

We bought similar packs to misdee this weekend - tesco frozen berries. There was BOGOF on the tropical fruit pieces.

DD - 10yo- has been experimenting with those plus bananas, grapes, oranges, lemons, limes. She writes down her recipes just like on the back of an innocent smoothie.

Kbear · 22/01/2007 19:43

If you look at the frozen and tinned fruits available now you can make some superb concoctions.

I'm interested in the oatmeal ones - recipes please Spidermama.

MerlinsBeard · 22/01/2007 19:43

i add vanilla ice cream in teh summer too

anniebear · 22/01/2007 19:52

this is all sounding lovely

thanks

The Innocent ones were in the paper the other day and they were saying there was loads of sugar in them

mistressmiggins · 22/01/2007 20:16

i use apple juice or cranberry juice
banana
frozen rasberries/blueberries/summer fruits

full of pips but dont need sugar at all

SueW · 22/01/2007 21:15

Of course there is sugar in the innocent ones - it comes from the fruit. Duh.

SueW · 22/01/2007 21:18

A one litre carton of Innocent strawberry and banana pure fruit smoothie contains:

76 pressed green grapes
39 crushed strawberries
2.5 mashed bananas
Half an orange, squeezed
Some fresh lemon juice

No concentrates
No stabilisers
No flavourings
No GM stuff
No preservatives
No added sugar
No e numbers
No funny business

Of course it's got sugar in. Nothing wrong with a bit of unrefined sugar presented in this form.

anniebear · 23/01/2007 07:37

I know!! I have bought it before (when on offer lol)

Im just saying what the newspaper article said and that was that it had lots of sugar in it. I can't remember things it had on the list but it was saying it had much more sugar than the ones on the list

OP posts:
nearlyfourbob · 23/01/2007 07:43

It probably had more "sugar" because it had more fruit.

anniebear · 23/01/2007 11:22

My friend apparently has 2 so she is sending me a smoothie maker today

yeah!!!!!
