Hi everyone,

I need some honest opinions (but please be nice to me )

I am putting together a package for employing Mums. Can you all please take a look and see if (as Mum's yourself) this would appear attractive?

I know I'm a Mum myself, but 27,000 heads are better than one!!

Here goes:

FunkiJunk jewellery was founded in October 2006, and is already growing from strength to strength. The ranges of jewellery sold are simply unique and ever-changing. That's what makes FunkiJunk work - it keeps customers interested.

We've all been to party-plan nights where the same things are on show over and over again!! It get's boring, and fashions change so quickly.

No two FunkiJunk parties are ever the same!

When recruiting for new consultants, our ethos is simple. Be there for your family, and take a few hours a week to enjoy yourself with other like-minded Mum's.

Victoria, founder of FunkiJunk Jewellery says
"It's important that when a consultant joins FunkiJunk Jewellery, she sets her own realistic targets. For example, Mrs X decides she would like to earn £300 per month. We discuss her family commitments, and what it would take for Mrs X to earn £300 a month, and see if they match each other. If they don't, we work it out until it does."

"I'm a Mum myself, and I know that trying to squeeze earning money in around children can be exhausting! I also know, that given the right job, and the right social situations - it can be brilliant for your self esteem. As Mum's we tend to forget our social selves, and commit everything to our children!! Doing parties gave me a tremendous confidence boost."

"To be honest, that is why I started FunkiJunk, I personally wanted something that was sociable, enjoyable and most of all, I could fit it in round my children."

"Lots of large companies who offer party-plan were asking me to realise huge targets when I enquired about joining them, and I knew it just wouldn't work around family commitments. I didn't want to be out of the house 4 or 5 nights a week."

It is for this reason, that when recruiting, FunkiJunk Jewellery set out simple criteria -

Make sure FunkiJunk fits in around you and your lifestyle. If you only want to commit yourself to two parties a month, then that's fine by us. Sometimes the simplest day to day tasks, such as going to the playschool bazaar or the local mother and toddler group can present itself as a place to show the jewellery.

For more information on becoming a representative of FunkiJunk, please email [email protected]

So er, what do you think guys?

funkimummy I'm afraid this just looks like a job ad thinly disguised as a request for advice. You have to pay for posts like this.

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 08:25

Yes I have checked and eventually if I do advertise, it will have to go in the employment section.

I am simply asking for advice in regards to what Mum's would look for in a job. I know what I would look for, but my own personal opinion isn't enough. I need the opinion of other Mum's if I am going to get it right.

Give me a little room to manouevre here. I'm new to all this, that's why I'm asking for advice!!!!!!

Well, firstly welldone for working on this.

I guess that before doing anything else i would like to see an example of what is being sold (and how much for). Jewelry parties are nototriously difficult as the price range and quality that individuals are looking for varies so widely.

I know that I'm probably being thick but do your consultants just do parties or are they also making jewelry?

Do I need to part with any money up front? If so roughly how much?

I wouldn't use the term "Mrs X" (or rather I wouldn't use a title, as you will alienate people who don't want a titkle, esp Mrs!) - I would use a first name, and preferably one that isn't tied to a certain age ifyswim.

If I were considering it I'd probably be a bit concerned with a relatively short track record. Not an issue if I'm not parting with cash though.

Ladymuck · 19/01/2007 08:27

You'd probably get round anorak's problem if you didn't put in your contact details whilst asking for advice.

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 08:31

Thanks for your comments Lady Muck.

I obviously don't want to get into the indepth areas of exactly whats on offer, as anorak rightly said, this is not the board for it, the employment board is.

I will bear in mind the new company bit. All I can say is, everyone has to start somewhere? (look at Richard Branson!!) I've done it all on my own without any help for nearly 3 months and it's worked for me!!

anorak · 19/01/2007 08:32

It isn't up to me to give you room to manoeuvre. I was just telling you what I thought MNHQ would say if they saw your post.

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 08:33

Oh bugger, just copied an pasted it out of the Word Document I'd used to draw it up.

Sorry about that everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ignore contact details pls!!!!!

glasses only just on, coffee not cool enough to drink yet, teddy still under my arm. Had a baby keeping me awake again last night.....................maybe I should start up another thread...................sleep suggestions anyone?

OP posts:
funkimummy · 19/01/2007 08:34

Anorak I would have to put it under 'employ a mumsnetter.' You don't appear to have to pay for this. I don't want to employ anyone yet, I'm just asking people to read what I have written and see if they agree with the philosophy or think it's a load of rubbish and would never work!!!

Katymac · 19/01/2007 08:35

WHy not get MN Towers to detete this thread & do it again without the contact details??

EVeryone happy

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 08:36

Katymac - good idea - what's quickest way to do that? I haven't been using Mumsnet very long.

OP posts:
funkimummy · 19/01/2007 08:45

Mumsnet team - please remove, and can you also let me know if I can put this on this section of the board?

Thanks

MrsJohnCusack · 19/01/2007 08:56

you need to contact MNHQ on [email protected] to get them to delete this as they won't read every thread

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 08:58

Thanks MJC - had a look round site and already done that - thought I'd stick it on the thread just in case. Have asked where they think is most appropriate to put it.

Thank you to those who have given advice. It's really appreciated.

Funkimummy - just a couple of things to do with grammar - Mums does not take an apostrophe as it is a plural; nor does gets as it's a verb......

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 09:06

Ima,

Thank you for casting your beady eye. I'll make the necessary changes.

(grammar was never my strong point.

See, I even missed the last bracket I was meant to put in on that post.

Fireflyfairy2 · 19/01/2007 09:26

Ignoring everything else, this seems like a great idea!!! I for one would be interested in something like this offering its-self to me for a bit of fun in my spare time!! Sounds like I would love funkijunk jewellery!!

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 09:31

Firefly - thank you for your input.

If you would like me to contact you when I have finalised the arrangements, let me know how I can get hold of you.

mumblechum · 19/01/2007 10:23

The only suggestion I have is that you maybe think about the product name - you don't want FunkyJunk to sound too junky - remember Gerald Ratner!

Otherwise, I think you've got yourself a good idea.

Maybe a bit more detail about the commission structure?

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 10:33

'Fraid I know nothing of Gerald Ratner. Not sure if I'm too old, too young, to dumb ro remember him!!

OP posts:
Fireflyfairy2 · 19/01/2007 10:35

Gerald Ratner owned ratners jewellery... when it went tits up they all called him "Rat"

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 10:37

Ah I see. Nope, still never heard of Ratners jewellery. It's H Samuel specials in our local town!!

OP posts:
mumblechum · 19/01/2007 10:46

The point about Ratners is that Gerald Ratner publicly described it as crap, and it immediately went into liquidation.

People generally don't want to buy things which have been denigrated, esp. by the manufacturer, so calling it FunkyJUNKY could backfire.

bettythebuilder · 19/01/2007 10:48

I don't think I'd put "to be honest"...when I see that, I always think "when weren't you being honest?"

funkimummy · 19/01/2007 10:49

I see.

It's called FunkiJunk because it is primarily costume jewellery (which people often refer to as 'junk jewellery.') and is therefore a play on words.

There are more prestigious collections of sterling silver, and thus they are marketed so.
