Magazine subscription?
Tea at the Ritz voucher?

The above being recent wedding presents given by me and dh.

dassie · 18/01/2007 14:25

You'd be better off spending the money on a really good bottle of wine or champagne than on the personalised bottle.

I know someone who gave some sort of plant for the garden.

Also received vouchers for afternoon tea which was a nice treat!

Matching llamas from Oxfam?

Agree no decorative objets they'll feel compelled to treasure and/or display when you come round.

BIL and SIL were similar - no gift list and asked for no stuff as their house was full. We got them a case of wine (handpicked - ones we knew were good and thought they'd like).

Tree for garden (if appropriate), or theatre vouchers, or tickets for a concert or something.

yes
anythign cute, personalised or your taste

twickersmum · 18/01/2007 14:37

i wouldn't go for the personalised champagne, it could be horrible stuff.

i would either go for a good bottle of champagne (likely to set you back about £40 e.g. laurent perrier rose)

or a plant for the garden is a lovely idea. We received some lovely rose bushes for our dd's christenings with names that meant something (Irish Eyes, Sophie's Rose, champagne moments) etc..

or if you have a nice photo of them get it framed. it's hard to get nice pics of both of you.

twickersmum · 18/01/2007 14:38

i don't think personalised pressies are necessarily naff, just that the champagne could be cheap stuff and you are paying a lot for something that is probably not worth a lot.

How about one of those plates that everyone writes messages on ?? Think they are fairly expensive tho

Plibble · 18/01/2007 15:05

Tickets to something.
Are they going somewhere nice for their honeymoon? Maybe send them a spa treatment or dinner or something at their hotel (just call the hotel, they'll take cards over the phone).

We got BIL and his new wife a wooden keepsake box. They loved it because they got married abroad and they kept things like the flight tickets and things like that.

Nothing?

paulaplumpbottom · 18/01/2007 17:09

Why not go to a website like Berry Brothers and have a bottle of wine from this year put up.

redshoes · 18/01/2007 20:07

Take her on a hen-nightish thing to a pottery painting place where you all write something personal? People did this for my friend and she loves the end result - all fairly arty teacher types mind...

allscrolledup · 21/01/2007 23:13

If you're still stuck for an idea, I have some scrolls on ebay that capture all the things that relate to the day a couple get married. A gift that they can treasure forever.

have a look at this
