Help – my washing is trapped inside the machine!!!

The door safety lock is jammed. You know, the locking system that stays on for about 20 secs after the wash has finished and shows a little red key symbol. It?s been like that for several hours and the wet washing is inside. I tried running another rinse/spin cycle but that didn?t help

I know I will have to call out a repair person but by the time they arrive in a few days the clothes will all be ruined. And the children will have no uniform to wear to school for the rest of the week. SIGH

have you tried unplugging it and leaving it for a bit then plugging it back in?

fishie · 17/01/2007 18:57

unplug it, get bucket and empty it using hose round the back (you may need someone to hold hose up to stop water coming while you empty bucket) it will open when it is emptyish.

Lorina · 17/01/2007 18:57

Turn it off at the wall.

Also try pushing the door in a bit to make sure the lock isnt wonky.

littleducks · 17/01/2007 18:57

i had opposite prob with mine wouldnt lock, turning off repeatedly power on off, drain again might work

TrinityRhino · 17/01/2007 18:57

lol sorry you've got it covered

JoolsToo · 17/01/2007 18:58

are you sure its not on a cycle where you have to manually advance it?

this happened to my son LOL!

Skyler · 17/01/2007 18:59

Try emptying / cleaning the filter. This might be blocked meaning there is some water still in the machine even though it thinks it has finished the cycle. This is what happened to our Zanussi, although it did die fairly soon after I don't think the two things were related.

SaintGeorge · 17/01/2007 19:06

Switch off at the plug. Leave for 10 minutes then try door again.

If that doesn't work and you are sure the machine is empty of water (so not a safety override keeping the door shut) you will have to manually trigger the door switch.

Ensure it is switched off and unplugged. Carefully remove top panel of machine. Slide hand down the inside front and you should find the door release catch.

oh you are wonderful mumsnetters! I put it on a spin cycle and discovered that there still was water in teh machine so it openined fine after teh cycle was finished. When Dh comes in from work I will get him to do all the stuff to try to clear the filter / drain at the back.

kids have clean dry uniform now

Thnaks so much!!

ROFL that really made me chuckle sauce, thats exactly what it's like here

KristinaM · 17/01/2007 23:36

oh trinity, hope it all goes well for you

the labour, birth, bf etc ( not the washing)

the bf gets you like that, doenst it? This is my last baby and he hasnt fed well these last few days. I'm fairly sure that its just the cold / teething/ general nosieness but I'm so worried he is self weaning. Hope not as he is only 13 months ....

ok - now finshed gushing about the joys of bf and hijacking own thread

whack the machine next to the door at the point where the lock catches.... a few good thumps should unstick it.

(if i'm impatient i speed ours along like this )
