thats awful. Glad they are ok.

It makes me when I see people chatting on the phone while driving.

Dp used to drive whilst on his phone. I kept pointing out that its weird that he cant stir soup and natter on the phone(useless at multi tasking) yet he seemed to think he could drive and do it.

very lucky people, glad they are OK.

FWIW It is illegal to use a hand-held mobile phone when driving and the penalties are going up. From 27 February 2007 you will receive a £60 fine and three penalty points on your licence. Points can mean higher insurance costs.

And worse still doing this can serioulsy f--k up someone elses life. Dont phone wait till you get home.

Stupid stupid thing to do! Nothing is that urgent that it can't wait until you can stop the car.

Funny how many people break the law when they are driving - seems not to count somehow.

wotzsaname · 16/01/2007 11:13

here are the current laws: gov website

This is one of my pet hates when i see people doing this. Last time a woman was about to go on to a very busy roundabout she was in the fast lane next to me and she nearly caused 2 accidents and didnt even notice.

It's supposedly illegal to use a hand held mobile whilst driving, but it doesn't seem to be enforced. You see so many people using hand held phones in their cars, whilst driving - from small roads to country lanes to motorways.

Hands should be on the steering wheel and not round a phone! Drives me mad.

And hands free earpieces are so cheap to buy, and most phones now have voice activiated dialling to go with it.

kittypants · 17/01/2007 10:14

thats awful!hope theyre ok.theres always idiots round here doing it so they introduced 'street rangers' driving round to watch that, among other things.but...i saw 1 speeding and 1 on his mobile whilst driving!!!!

Until the law starts disqualifying people who are caught driving w/a handheld, instaed of doing nothing or just a small fine, people will continue to do this and kill/injure others.

Unfortunately, if most people aren't policed, they go ghetto.

My DH does this because the people he works with do not have any work/homelife boundaries. Everytime he does it my DD and I start singing the Lonely Goat Herd as loud as possible. It sounds very immature but it gets him off the phone and prevents him from making the calls. I think it is sooooo dangerous talking and driving at the same time. I agree that it should be a disqualification. I guess enough people haven't died yet.

I saw a young woman chattering on her phone as she drove out the retail park car park the other day about 6pm ish -it was dark and she was so busy chatting she forgot to put her lights on.

Car parks are high risk areas for accidents anyway without the added hazards of being on a phone and not putting your lights on.

I couldn't resist shouting but was very restrained as DD (7) was with me. Driver was too busy chatting to hear/notice us though.

Unfortunately, even with the new restrictions, people still use the mobile while driving quite a lot .

I was quite shocked at the beginning of the year when my sister told me that the 10 yr old DD of her friend was killed in a driving incident where the person who was on the phone and skiped a traffic light was the child's mother.
