I thought there was a recent thread about this but I've searched and can't find it. Anyone know anything about how to get rid of ants? They've suddenly appeared all over the kitchen floor and in a cupboard this morning.

Duck tape is great. Spread some along the floor sitcky side up and put jam down the centre. They try and get to the jam and they get stuck.

Other than that you can't really get rid. I've just learned to live with them and not leave anything sweet out otherwise it's black and crawling in the morning.

Can you see where they're getting in?

I hooved alot of mine up when i found them, but i know where they were getting in and blocked up the hole with blu tack, cause thats all i could find at the time,

Find the nest and destroy it. i sound really horrible. but if they are bothering you.

there is another thread on here ....argh ants....
lots of us have had this

marthamoo · 30/05/2004 10:57

Thread is here www.

Can really recommend the Ant Stop bait and Deathlac I mention on it. We had two ants yesterday after torrential rain - but they are the first two I have seen for weeks and weeks.

HTH.

Apparently they don't like talc (or the soft white pepper you can buy). Sprinkle it where they are coming in. I've heard they won't cross over it, although I haven't tried it myself.

Levanna · 30/05/2004 21:42

We had loads of them (and tried allsorts!), the local council's pest control unit put an end to them for a flat rate of £15 and we haven't seen any since .

willow2 · 03/06/2004 19:05

Does anyone know if Ant Stop (spray) is much cop? Have spent most of the day spraying it all around the garden and round the skirting boards, door frames etc. Supposedly they take traces of it back to the nest which kills the bug(ger)s Am dreading coming downstairs tomorrow morning for fear of a repeat of this morning's greeting. Think I'll call the council tomorrow.

Nippon - tube - worked here. But I love the sticky tape and jam idea!

gloworm · 04/06/2004 06:38

have just been told by someone who owns a garden centre that ants hate baby powder, just lay a trail of it and they won't cross over it.

Jaybee · 04/06/2004 09:37

Talc is what organic gardeners use to get rid of ants - personally, I use the nippon tubes - seems to work. We don't have a major problem with them, they seem to prefer next door that get loads of them.

angryaboutpast · 04/06/2004 09:48

we had this trouble kids wike up with their bed covered in the little blighters!!......i called pest control out straight away (you get it at a reduced rate if you get child or working tax credit) he told he that what you should really do is buy nippon liquid in a tube and leave it down overnight (as they are more active at night apparently). the workers take this back to the queen and it kills her, so no more ants will be born. then 5 days later, you put the nippon powder down and this kills the workers. If you just put the powder or spray down it only kills the workers but not the queen so she will just keep breeding. HTH

Can recommend the 'Brick' and 'Pepper Dust' method. If you lay a brick down, in the area where the ants are coming in, and sprinkle pepper dust around it, on passing through the pepper, they sneeze, hit their heads on the brick and knock themselves out!! Maybe worth a try.

If not Nipon, or talc. Either good.

Lara2 · 06/06/2004 20:35

Spray Deathlac where you think they are coming in. It dries to a waterproof invisible shield - harmless to children and pets once it's dry and it will stop the little buggers dead - literally!

happycat · 06/06/2004 23:04

Well the little gits have moved into my house now we have never had them before are they really bad this year for some reason. What could it be ummm sorry wanted to try out a new face

willow2 · 07/06/2004 11:07

Update - sprayed Ant Stop all around the outside of the house; in all the cracks in the walls and patio and all around the plant pots where they seem to take refuge. Then put down a couple of portions of Nippon gel on their ant runs. Then became really obsessed and patrolled the garden at night with a torch, trying to work out where their main hide-outs where, and whacked down more spray and gel whenever I found an HQ. Came down the next morning fearing the kitchen would have been invaded again, but so far so good. I've had the occasional ant in the kitchen, but vast swathes of dead ones in the garden. It's genocide... DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE. Sorry, had to get that out of my system. Will let you know if they mount a resistance.

juniper68 · 15/06/2004 22:35

Arrghh we've got them for the first time ever. They're all over the kitchen but I've seen them in the living room too

islandgirl · 15/06/2004 22:47

juniper - go for nippon, works really quickly, and they don't seem to come back

juniper68 · 16/06/2004 09:10

thanks islandgirl

Sonnet · 16/06/2004 09:19

Def nippon - works a treat
