When was the last time you went into a bank?

I can't remember the last time I went into a bank. I've used internet banking now for five years. I have ibank with Barclays, Halifax, Nationwide and Virgin One.

I'd rather send an E-mail than pick up the phone.

Dh says that people will lose the art of conversation.

I'm only 27 and the way things work have changed dramatically for me.

Although being able to send an E-mail to ammend bank details on a Sunday morning knowing full well I'd have forgotten by Tuesday is a bonus.

I went in a couple of weeks ago to pay a cheque in, and to pay the BT Broadband bill

misdee · 30/05/2004 10:03

probably about 3days ago to pay a cheque in. i use internet and phone banking as well, but would rather speak to a person than an automated voice telling me which buttons to press (oooo-er). There has been discrepancies on my accounts recently and there was no way i was gonna wait for them to pick up email etc, so was on the phone several times (one bank took an extra payment out for a loan, making me go overdrawn and got charges, one charge me for going overdrawn when my account was in credit, got both refunded) to sort it out.

I'm okay - thanks for asking soulfly. Although ds1 is still asleep.

Those of you that have ibank - can you set up standing orders from your account.

I'm finding it a bit of a pain that I can't from the Virgin One.

yup, can set up SO and regular transfers online. i'm with abbey.

pickledbeetle · 30/05/2004 10:08

I use First Direct and find it brilliant, much less hassle

Flip · 30/05/2004 10:10

I've just changed from Barclays to Virgin One and I guess I was spoilt by Barclays. I could pay anyone and set up standing orders.

Been with First Direct for 9 years. Pay in cheques by post, everything else done by phone or internet (no automated voices - real people even on Christmas Day at 9pm). Even sorted out a new mortgage with them. Occasionally pop into a bank to use an atm if there is a queue outside, but can't remember when I've last done some banking. However need to set up some kids bank accounts and will probably do so at Nationwide, so High Street here I come.

Friday. Apparently, we are 'Premier' clients and thus rated a special meeting with bank manager. It must be cos we have more debts than most people!! That's the first time I've been in our branch for several years, though I pop into the local one to deposit cheques, dd's savings, usually about 10gbp in pennies and five pences - oh how they love me when I do that!! I also internet bank, which is great - if I can recall my passwords.

I don't like the thought that my phone conversations could be on tape. That's why I prefer to talk to cashiers face to face on occasion. I go into a bank once a week on average.

suzywong · 30/05/2004 13:41

Can't remember, thank goodness, God Bless the First Direct

Nutcracker · 30/05/2004 19:04

Oooh it must be about 6 mths ago. First i used telephone banking and then internet.
I think it's great.
I was in danger of going overdrawn the other week, so my dad just transfered me 50 quid

when did you last get your child bebefit from a post office like lots of people have too who don't have loads of money and internet access!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

baldrick · 30/05/2004 19:17

with Abbey, and you can cancel S/O on e-banking and increase or decrease your amounts....they don't charge you for stopping cheques....but be warned if you go over your limit to cover a transaction, then you will get charged.....ie. I was 17p over my limit by them paying one of my transactions and got charged £20 for the privelge...so please be careful....banks are very unscrupulous when need be
