DD1 (7.5) has just been into the toilet and said
"Mummy, there is something in a box on the floor and it says TEMPAX ( ) what is it for?"

I responded with "um, um, well darling it's something that you don't really need to know about too much until you are a bigger irl but basically it's something mummy needs to use sometimes"

She insisted that I tell her more - so I did, but very carefully and gently without wanting to make her afraid. She seemed very interested and not at all worried.

So there, my first Mum and Big Girl chat done and dusted. Awwwwww! - what happened to my little baby girl?

I this Aloha speaks wisely. I have always answered every question truthfully, but carefully and only tell them the answer to what they have asked iyswim. My three all know at 7, 5 & 4 the other day I told them that dd2's Godfather's wife was pg and dd1 said ooo R.. put his willy in S... and they fell about laughing and that was it.

I have also told dd1, who has been talking about boyfriends a lot that she should only have a boyfried who really cares about her. This has proved to work quite well when a boy at school wanted to kiss her, she said she had said no because she knew he didn't really care about her.

A first kiss at 7? Wow they grow up quick these days.

I love Aloha's explanation. DD (3.6) asked how babies were made a few weeks ago and we were a bit thrown so said we had to have special cuddles. Except that was a mistake as dd and I often have special cuddles too.

She knew she grew in my tummy and her next question was "who was in your tummy with me mummy?" and when I said "no-one, just you" she said "Oh! Well who helped me get dressed then?"!!

I used the special cuddles line to.

dd1(7) hasn't asked anything.dd2 (5) asks when we are getting another baby, and I've tolde her you need a Mammy and a Daddy to have a baby and she is quite happy with that.

Oh my god!!! See my first post further down, then come back and read this!....

I got my period yesterday and this evening when I was getting DD's bath ready, she looked in the toilet and said "Uurgh Mum why is there blood in the loo?!?" (OH NO I thought, it didn't all go down when I flushed earlier!) So I then had to explain that it was nothing to worry about, just my period and then of course had to explain what a period was. I wanted to just keep it simple, but she just kept on throwing questions at me. So now she knows EXACTLY why we have periods, how babies are made and even what condoms are!! ROFL

However, now I REALLY need a book, as she has asked for one and says she is a bit scared about periods. She wants one this week, so off to Amazon I go...

Relieved that she now knows all she needs to know, but cannot get over the fact that I was only thinking about this yesterday and now it's happened! LOL

Oh, and PS...

She also wanted to see how the tampons and pantyliners work!! She made me show her using water! I had to pour water on the pad, and dip the tampon in a jug of water. She was fascinated LOL
