Coventry/nuneaton - nice places to move to?

We need t orelocate as dh s driving to far every day to Oadby (east side of Leicester).

So we need somewhere commuting distance of Oadby, but also near to a hospital with a maternity unit so hopefully I can get a job.

Living on the outskirts of Leicester is obviously an option but also looking at other hospitals in area. Coventry isn't too far, has a good new hospital and house prices seem cheap compared to other places.

Any advice on areas to avoid/good primary schools, etc.

TIA

What sort of housing are you looking for, city, rural etc?

tenbygirl · 12/01/2007 19:59

Either edge of city or large village.

To be honest I don't mind nearer the city centre if its a quiet area where I'm not going to have drunken idiots walking past the house singing late at night.

If its a village it must have a shop and a primary school. We need a 3 bed house with a garden for under 200k.

Oh and I don't like modern housing estates

having answered your thread I'm now thinking it's been so long since I lived there, I'm not really qualified to answer. Having family in the areas you are looking and without wishing to offend anyone I would not advocate Nuneaton but look more on the Leicestershire side rather than Warwickshire.

I live in Nuneaton.
Its quiet, a few chavs by the shops but theres no trouble really.

Good areas are...
Areas to avoid at all costs are....
Hilltop

Ok areas with house ranging from 100k for a 3 bed terraced with garden

Stockingford

Good areas £150k +
Whitestone
Attleborough
Galley Common

Any questions just ask im usually around

LoveMyGirls · 13/01/2007 15:44

hillfields

Dont know cov that well but i know that much so thought id share.

I used to teach at Stockingford Junior School and was looking them up today as I needed details to put on an application form. I see that the junior school has suffered since I departed and is now under special measures - has been for nearly 2 years. So I would afford Stockingford in Nuneaton if I were you.

BTW, we lived in Rugby at the time which was OK when we were there (though the Maternity unit closed soon after we left, the ones at Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry wasn't too far away). Rugby itself was a quiet place to live, though the shops were poor. I believe things have improved since. Dh worked in Whetstone (south of Leicester) so we were both commuting to get to work but neither of us found the commute too hard.

WE LIVE IN BEDWORTH AND IT IS NICE AND SOME PARTS OF COVENTRY ARE NICE ASWELL ALL DEPENDS WHAT YOU WANT FROM THE AREA YOU WISH TO LIVE IN

Re: Coventry. Some bits of Tile Hill are OK and Hillfields has hugely improved over the last few years. Avoid at all costs Wood End and Willenhall. (Apologies to anybody living there, but I had a number of clients who lived there and it sounded absolutely terrible.)

Styvechale and Earlsdon are both nice, and in very good catchment areas. Coundon is also quite nice - Coundon Court is a good secondary school if your children are musical. The best secondary school is Finham and all houses within that catchment are a good £10k more expensive than those outside it because, to be frank, many of the schools in Coventry are not great. The city centre hasn't half improved over the last 5 years - although it still smells of cigarette smoke.

Hijack (sorry)- LoveMyGirls, I didn't know you were in Nuneaton, I am too (though not from here)
