Mum's just phoned to say nan is in hospital after a suspected stroke

She is 85, so I guess these things are expected, but I love my nan to pieces & I feel a bit shaken up.
My parents are away for the w/e & my mum has just found out & phoned to let me know.
She had a massive fall & couldn't speak when my cousin found her. She is concious & able to talk now, but apparantly quite shot away. The doctors want to do a brain scan on her.
I'm so worried she might not pull through.

Just a positive (sort of) story so you don't give up

Thanks nikkie.
Nan is comfortable atm & I am going to try & get to see her tomorrow. I hope she gets through this.

Just phoned hospital again. She is in the clinical decisions ward atm, but they might be moving her.
She is apparantly a little brighter today & sitting up, which is quite reassuring.

Thanks for the positive vibes.
I am hoping to get to visit my nan today. Couldn't get there yesterday as I had no one to take me.

Did you get to visit?

Pinkchampagne · 15/01/2007 16:37

She has improved a little, although still not quite with it.
The doctor feels it was a small warning type stroke, but they haven't yet done the brain scan on her.
She asked after the boys, bless her.

Thats great news

She thought a train went through her ward, so she is still pretty shot - but she gets like that after any kind of knock to her head.
I am feeling quite reassured now, although I'm still worried about her. I hope they don't rush her out of hospital too soon.

paulaplumpbottom · 15/01/2007 21:57

How may knocks to the head has she head?

paulaplumpbottom · 15/01/2007 21:57

had?

Pinkchampagne · 15/01/2007 22:09

She has had around 4 falls in the last year. The last big fall was in the summer & as a result of this, she was hospitalised for the majority of the summer, as they wanted to keep an eye on her.
They think she may have had small strokes before.
She does get a bit out of it for a while, but this is normal for my nan & she generally improves in time.
Not sure when they are doing this brain scan.

If she has had a fall recently it may be a bleed rather than a clot.Causes more or less the same problems though.

Pinkchampagne · 17/01/2007 12:58

Can't believe it! They sent my nan home this morning!!!
She is still very wobbly & quite tearful. I am not sure she should be home just yet, but she is!

She will have to go back for the brain scan.

Pinkchampagne · 17/01/2007 13:19

It is isn't it?!
Didn't think they would let her out so soon, but they obviously feel happy enough to let her go home!
Just 5 days back I was worried she wouldn't pull through, and now she's home!!!

Mum's trying to get her into a nursing home for a couple of weeks, as she's very wobbly on her feet atm.
