This really pisses me off. Not by school (cos ds doesn't go to school yet) but by my house. The roads are so narrow the double yellow lines are there cos if peopel park there then you
a)can't get car through
b)blocks your view completely (twisty roads as well)
c)leads to the roads getting completely blocked and no one can move back or forward or see what any other car is doing.

Oh and pedestrians can't see to cross the roads. People with pushchairs ahve to walk down the middle of the road. And loads of the cars drive at really high speeds.

Don't even get me started on the garage with no forecourt and the 16ft lorries. Or the pub deliveries. Or the binmen or many other things.

They are morons who should ahve their licenses taken away. FFS they even park half over the disabled spaces outside peoples houses so they can't get in them - that is the worst I think

If the next street is empty that makes it even worse (ours at least don't have that excuse).

This used to happen at our school. The school sent a letter to all the parents saying how dangerous it is and that they have contacted the police who will now be doing random drive bys at school times and giving out tickets. Things are so much better now.

mrsflowerpot · 12/01/2007 13:34

Our school just sent a letter out to all parents written by the children on the School Council about this. We have random police patrols too. It's beyond laziness too as there is a big free car park 100 yards from the school gate.

Twinkie1 · 12/01/2007 13:35

We have a smart car parked outside the school now with a camera in it andpeople who park illegally will automatically get a ticket - they tried the letters home and people just ignored it.

Mind you one stupid resident laid down on the pavement after deciding none of the mums should be able to drive down her street so we couldn't get past the car that she had blocked the road with even by driving round it - often the people that live there cause more trouble than its worth - I understand them getting cross at the illegal parking or people blocking their driveways but they knew the school was their when they bought the house so they can't get cross that it is busy 3 times a day or that sometimes they can;t get a parking space if they come home at chucking out time!!

I'm going to sound just like my mother-but it seems to highlight a real lack of respect for other people and the belief that one may do as one pleases. It is another thing to be stressed about and people need to slow up the pace of life a little, think about other people more and try to be more courteous in general.

my dd started school (nursery but at school, so lots of parents) last week. When we looked round the school 2 years ago we were told that they encourage parents to park in the sainsbury's car park which is maybe 3-5 mins walk away. so i do. But so so so many just park on the side roads nearest school... they say the wardens are lenient and ignore but i know that if i did it one day i'd get caught. Plus the walk is good for dd and it gives us time to chat. Yesterday morning as i came out after taking her in i saw one car not even really parked. It made me laugh (as a new driver i'm very nosy at the way people park cos it freaks me out doing it lol). It was as if they had aimed the car in the right direction and switched off the engine before the finsihed the manoeuvre.

We've just (yesterday!) had a letter from the local police community partnership via school on exactly this subject, warning that anyone parking/waiting on the yellow lines or causing an obstruction is liable to be given a ticket. And lo and behold this morning two police officers were their doing exactly that. Excellent!

Apparently this came about after a parent complained to the headteacher, and the head told the parent to complain to the police.

[I just hope they don't start giving penalty notices to all the kids who rid to school on bikes on the pavement: technically they could, but I think it would be a bit harsh with junior-school aged kids.]

sexkittyinwaiting · 12/01/2007 14:15

It's the same at my kids' school, there is a car park the local pub kindly lets us use, there are also a few spaces right ourside the school. I usually park in the car park and take three to school, one to pre school, push the baby in the pram and waddle 'cos I'm 30 weeks preg. Then I reach the school and there are always arses who park their cars on the zigzags. Occasionally the police come.
There's a woman who lives about a 4 min walk from school and she DRIVES there ffs. I reckon it takes her twice as long to do that, park up etc than it would to walk. God I don't understand some epople, I really don't.

lionheart · 12/01/2007 14:59

The school here has has a couple of near misses with people driving up on the pavement to park.
