My sons' sports team are trying to raise funds/sponsorship for their team.

Does anyone know where I can get any advice about this please?

tia.

Try your local Council for Voluntary Services (CVS). They are usually a great source of info and may have details on local companies/orgs who could help if the club/team puts together a good application. They may even be able to help with putting together the application.

Some ideas you'd prob get from them:

  • local (really local) companies/shops (a kitchen & bathrooms shop sponsors one of our local children's sports teams)
  • local mayor's charities
  • local building societies
  • Lottery funding supports different causes in different areas but these change so it is worth keeping an eye on it.

After getting the funding it's really IMPORTANT (and polite!) to keep in touch with your sponsors, send them newsletters, make sure you are wearing sponsored shirts etc in any press photos.

Can't remember much else off the top of my head (used to work for CVS)

Don't think there's a CVS in your area MrsB, only in N/C and Moorlands I think. If I'm remembering rightly where you are.

Is it footie? - have you had money from the Football Foundation. They paid for a strip for ds's team a couple of years ago.

I'll have a think.

Some links here

Or were you thinking more 'local'?

Thanks for the links.

Well remembered Saggar, lol.

Will take a look at the links.

No, it's not footie, it martial arts, and I'm thinking "anything" at the moment.

Many thanks.

If thinking "anything" then it depends how much work you want to do. DD's judo club raised almost £500 from their Xmas raffle by asking for donations from parents for raffle prizes and we don't live in a wealthy part of the country by any means.

local shops/businesses are worth going round for sponsorship/advertising.

your local council may have a 'community chest' small amounts of funding up to £1000 for community activities - if its open to the whole community.

Also Rotary/Roundtable/Masons/Inner Wheel/Ladies' Circle etc may be worth a shot.

yes indeedy they have money

Is there any parents that run their own business or work somewhere that may sponsor the team or firms a newsletter or something could be sent to them all if they aren't aware that sponsorship is needed.
My hockey team is sponsored by a firm of solicitors and my dad sponsors my brothers football team

Some great ideas here, thanks.

The club is quite small (fairly new), but is open to everyone. The team is a bit more specific, but again, once part of the club, students can be selected for the club.

The parents are quite supportive, but because we want to improve the environment (we're in an old building which needs a lot of work) alongside supporting them in competition, we're forever dipping into our pockets.

We're looking into sponsorship by local companies/parents' workplaces etc, but in my case, both DH n myself work in the CJS so no chance there.

Your help is really appreciated.

Thanks.
