Dd1 came out of school today with a letter saying that i hadn't paid last weeks dinner money.
Well i know i have. I'm absolutly sure of it because i was meant to put a day less in cos of school trip, but i forgot so i took it out of this weeks.

I went to the office and told them. At first they said well it may not be for last week (it says week beggining 14thmay on the letter) then they said are you sure, and i said yes (explained how i was sure). They said they will have to check with Dd1's teacher incase she lost it.

I've got to go back tommorow to find out. I think they will ask me to pay it again. I don't think i should as i'm so sure i paid it.

What do you think ?? It's only 7.50 but i'm pretty broke at the mo and it has happened before to others who have been sure they've paid.

If you're sure you've paid then stand your ground. I'm surprised they don't give you some kind of receipt or paying-in book. £7.50 a week over a whole school year adds up to a fair amount of money.

Do they have a computer with all the payments and stuff? Only ask as this happened to me a few weeks ago, got letter saying owed £7.25, was sure had paid it, they gave me a print out of all the payments....and a week or so later, the school secretary said we had paid it...it could well be an error....and yes ikwym, £7.50 might not seem a lot to them but I didn't want to pay twice either...even though dh said it's a good school...hope you have some joy here Nutcracker

No they never give reciepts. If they get funny about it i will put her back on sarnies.

Erm not sure if it's kept on computer i'll check tommorow.

do they have any kind of record of payments?

Nutcracker · 27/05/2004 22:41

Suppose they must do, but i think that my dd has given the money in and then the teacher has slipped in inside the register and it's fell out.

Does your DD have a book bag??? If so look in there!!

Had same thing a couple of weeks ago - the office reckoned I owed a 1 week's money. I went into the office declaring that I did in fact owe NO MONEY at all etc etc.

The next day I found the Dinner Money envelope, complete with cheque at the bottom of DS1s book bag

we had this too nutcracker and i was absolutely certain i had paid it. i told them that in future i would pay by cheque. on mentioning it in conversation to others it turned out they had the same thing. i told the school i thought it had been stolen from ds...they insisted it hadnt but it turned out a little boy well known for his bad behaviour was going round all the children saying his mommy hadnt given him any dinner money and could he have theirs? they were all handing it over because they felt sorry for him! they were only 5 at the time, the naughty little bugger. pay weekly by cheque if you can, that should sort it.

Freckle · 28/05/2004 06:57

Pay by cheque in future. I hate sending cash into school for anything (a) because I myself often forget what I've paid and (b) it's an accurate record in case the school claim I haven't paid. It also avoids any of the boys losing cash.

Fio2 · 28/05/2004 07:06

pay by cheque in future as freckle says. Dont really know what you can do otherwise, sorr!

I pay by cheque a term at a time so ds1 isn't responcible for his dinner money. He'd spend it in the shop.
