Ideas for a 'typically English' gift.................

Northerner · 27/05/2004 15:04

I need to come up with a few suggestions for a gift for 100 conference delegates. They are all foreign (mainly European) and nearly all men. Budget is £100 per gift. Can only come up with something from Royal Doulton so far, but everything is a bit feminine. Help!

TIA

gothicmama · 27/05/2004 15:06

Whiskey from a distillery glass from Ravensberg or other Uk manufacturer- substitue wine for ladies or piece from royal dalton do like F&M hamper idea tho

Babyannabel · 27/05/2004 15:07

Links of London do some good stuff

Blu · 27/05/2004 15:08

What do Liberty have in Liberty print?
Does it have to be 'English' or could it be a good single malt whisky? Is Wedgewood any better? Burberry? Is the conference in London? The London Transport Museum does v classy gifts based on classic tube designs and insignia.

Northerner · 27/05/2004 15:12

thanks guys, keep 'em coming.

Blu - yes he conference is in London - it's at The Savoy.

Love all the ideas esp transport musuem thing. Like FM hamper but it has to be easly transported so they can all take it home easily.

A penhaligons butter leather toilet bag. These are truely gorgeous - in teh softest leather imaginable. And Penhaligons is just sooo english!

Or maybe a nice umbrella from Pickett fine leather?

Have a browse on both sites - some lovely stuff!

Picketts

penhilgons - men

penhaligons - ladies

Thought of the Penguin Book mugs, but too cheap now I've read the rest of thread.. What about a travel rug or sophisticated picnic kit.

Northerner · 27/05/2004 15:19

Soapbox they are lovely ideas, perticularly like Penhaligans.

Lemonice like the travelrug idea too, could maybe get one in Burberry or something.

Right, off to research these now so I can present ideas to my boss. Thanks again.

I was going to suggest Penhaligons too. I know the PR! Lovely stuff and lots and lots of travel goods so really good for conference delegates who presumably travel a lot - with the small sizes of toiletries inside?

How about a mug with a double decker bus picture on it. Or a T shirt that says, 'My dad went to England and all I got was this lousy T shirt'?

Only joking...

How about a little tea set in good china with two cups and saucers, a little teapot, two silver spoons and some tins of good tea?

unicorn · 27/05/2004 15:49

some wedgewood pottery (from Staffordshire methinks?)

Blu · 27/05/2004 15:51

Northerner - well done, you have justified your MN-ing in work time!!!!

littlemissbossy · 27/05/2004 15:57

Halcyon Days hand painted enamel box - small, easy to take home, very collectable and they do corporate commissions so you can have your company name on. My advice is don't get food if your delegates are travelling abroad. HTH

SoupDragon · 27/05/2004 16:10

Fortnum and Masons do some great things - we go there every Christmas to buy posh gifts from the food hall.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2004 16:10

They do marmalade

Davros · 27/05/2004 17:13

Was just going to suggest Halcyon Days but lmb got there first! Also like Liberty and Penhaligons. Can't stand marmalade, don't like that thick peel. Maybe Duchy of Cornwall do a gift box?
