Any piano teachers/players out there who buy sheet music online?

I took delivery of my parents' piano today, after some years of waiting to have a big enough house and a further year to organise a piano remover!

I am interested in buying sheet music (classical) for me, since my sister seems to have pinched half my old music, and a music book for beginners so I can teach my children to play. They can read music already but need to start from the basics of playing with two hands. I don't know if there is a particular scheme anyone could recommend?

I would be interested to hear from piano teachers of any scheme they recommend, but mostly I want to know if it is possible to purchase sheet music and teaching books online, and if so, where?

TIA.

Hi DG, I'm not a music teacher but I have used both of these places to buy music teaching books and sheet music, and both were good:

Chamberlain music

Music Room

Thank you tamum, that is just the sort of thing I was hoping for.

I tried searching for beginners piano books on the second site and was overwhelmed with the choice. How on earth can I possibly select the right one? I could really do with a recommendation now from either a piano teacher or someone who has taught their children to play the piano.

Please?

It is overwhelming, isn't it? I don't know how helpful this will be, other than to bump the thread for someone expert, but I just found ds's old books and he started with John Schaum's piano course . Maybe now some piano teachers will come along

Not too old YG - my children (the ones who can already read music) are 10 and 9.

Come to think of it, loads of Mumsnetters must be mums of children learning the piano. Would any of you mind loking to see what was the first book your child came home with?

x posts. Thank you both of you, that is very helpful. Tamum, I assume the book you linked to teaches left hand? I am trying to remember back to when I learnt (long long time ago!) I am sure I started with just the right hand.....well, my boys would soon master that as they already read and play one line of music, they would just need to learn the placement of the notes on the keyboard and the fingering. So I need something that fairly quickly gets on with introducing the bass clef and playing with 2 hands....

Hi again DG, I just went back and looked- it starts with one note per bar with the left hand, then a couple, then ramps up fairly quickly. He also had Alfred's Basic Piano Library Prep course, but that looks much younger IYSWIM, so less suitable for 9 and 10 year olds I would say.

DD used this and then part 2 before moving onto other things.

Thinking about this, the age of the learner is quite relevant, isn't it? Sorry if I am stating the obvious, but it has only just occurred to me! So if anyone else has any recommendations to make, it might be worth stating what age child used them.
