Would you take your DC to playgroup if they had a cold?

DS is 15mths and has a cold which he caught when we visited a nursery on Monday. He's got a very runny nose and a bit of a cough. He's driving me MAD!!! We both need to get out of the house - he needs the company of other kids and I need a break (had no sleep past two nights due to his cold!!). Question is - would you take your child to a toddler playgroup with a cold or spare the other kids?

toddler group is fine, just keep mopping up the river of snot

Guess I'm less worried about the other kids than the disapproving looks of their mothers!

yes, if hes active and otherwise Ok then take him. If we kept the toddlers off everytime they had colds or runny noses the playgroups/nurseries would be empty !

take a good supply of tissues !

yes take him and I doubt you'll have funny looks because toddlers always have colds. if you stayed in every time they were snotty you'd never leave the house.

if you stayed at home whenever they had colds you would never get out - bet half the kids have colds at the moment anyway.

Kids get on average 7 colds a year, so I'm told, and that wouldn't happen if we all stayed at home for the slightest sniffle! I would carry on as normal if he seems in good spirits. If he had a temperature, vomiting, stomach upset, or generally seemed unwell, then I would stay at home and go to your GP. I would avoid contact with newborn babies though. I've also heard that getting colds helps children build up their immune system so they get less colds later on - hope that's some consolation! Hopefully once he's over the worst he should sleep loads, and so will you! Have you tried smearing some vapour rub on his chest to help him breathe better?
