£25 to join First Direct - honestly!

I've been a (very happy) First Direct customer for years, and they're running a promotion whereby if an existing customer recommends a friend to open a current account with them before 30 June, both the new ustomer and me get £25 each. So if anyone's thinking of opening an account let me know if you're interested in this or want more info. There's no catch!

Don't want to join - as am already am a FD customer - just thougth I'd add how good they've always been to us service wise - if anyone is unhappy with their current level of service I'd definitely say give them a try

Ailsa · 16/05/2002 20:15

I'd definately agree, have been with FD for nearly 5 years now.

Sorry, I am a bit of a chicken here, I have changed my name. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit cheeky! I am glad to hear First Direct is such a good bank and if I am changing in the future I will consider it. Very nice to get £25 for opening the account but, and correct me if I am wrong, I assume every account opened through Fionn is going to earn her £25. I know this is not an unusual deal but perhaps an unusual way to try to benefit from it. After all if 20 people open an account through Fionn that will earn her £500.

I have seen others complaining about companies posting trying to get us to buy their Colic drops or whatever but I think this is worse.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I assume that as nobody so far has taken the bait I am not the only on thinking this way.

I am not sure if I made myself terribly clear there. I mean that under normal circumstances she would not have much of a chance of getting say 20 people to sign up but with 6,000 Mumsnet members she could be on to quite an earner!

Sorry, call me naive, but I really didn't expect the negative responses! FD only allow you to recommend a maximum of 5 customers. I thought if anyone was thinking of joining anyway, they'd get £25, and yes, so would I. I suppose offering this to someone you know is different from offering it on a site like this, so I apologise to those I've offended and withdraw the offer!

well, I didn't think there was anything wrong with it - Fionn was perfectly upfront about what was being offered.

threeangels · 17/05/2002 15:22

Fionne, I didnt think there was anything wrong with your offer. Its not like you were out trying to steal peoples money. The offer was clear and upfront like others said. Good way to make some extra income though.

We've been with FD for about 10 years now, they're brilliant. My only complaint is the amount of junk mail they keep sending and they insist on putting 2 statements in one envelope every month, I've no idea why.

If anyone does bank with them, make sure you swap to the internet account as it pays interest. You can still phone them when you need to and still receive a statement if you request it. R

bayleaf · 17/05/2002 21:20

Rhiannon - it's worth telling them to cut back on the mail - I got shirty with them after a particularly ridiculous week and it's been much reduced since - I specified that we did not want to change our mortgage/take out a pension - but that yes to send ISas etc

AliH · 17/05/2002 21:22

I too have been a very satisfied FD customer for about 10 years, I think they are great.

BUT (isn't there always one)

I have been involved with their Capital offshoot since its inception (Jan 2001 I think). Almost all dealings with it have been awful. I am on my third financial adviser, having complained bitterly after receiving terrible service from the first two.

Anyone else had similar problems with Capital at FD?

zebra · 28/08/2003 19:19

If anyone gets a paper invite to join First Direct, may well be worthwhile. We got invites to join FD thru the post. Promised a £35 bonus as soon as account was in credit. In the past, ifyou moved to them, to get the bonus, you had to pay £1000 into the account monthly. This is the case now if you apply online (where you only get £25 for opening a current account with them). DH earns nothing and I earn less than £1000/month... But it turns out they are giving the £35 anyway!! DH couldn't apply for me fast enough. I await the junk mail!
