Saturday 14 August from Maidstone in Kent for the Down's syndrome Association. 5,000 ft freefall from 10,00 ft, tandem skydive.

Up for it? Come on.......it'll be great!

If you want more details email me through mumsnet.

Anyone else done it, I'm sure there are, can you just tell me how GREAT it was. No horror stories please! Ta.

Also, don't know if this is allowed, but if you can't jump, or just too chicken! but would like to sponsor, then that would be great. The more money I get, the more the charity get.

It's a great charity and have already been a big help just to little old me and my lot so.......

I haven't done the freefall bit but I did jump out at 3,000 feet a long, long time ago. Basically I jumped out and the parachute opened automatically. All I had to do was land (in a very undignified fashion). The main thing I remember was the complete peace when you are floating down and how you can hear so many of the tiniest noises. It was fantastic.

I hope you really enjoy it and raise lots of money. Once was enough for me so I won't offer to join you but I bet someone will. Good luck.

SoupDragon · 26/05/2004 12:59

Love to but, you know, bad back and all that. Sigh... never mind... No! Nothing at all to do with my complete cowardice! How could you suggest such a thing?

albert · 26/05/2004 13:02

Hey Thomcat, go for it!! I did two parachute jumps in my university days and have to say it was FANTASTIC (don't like to mention I was scared stupid though). Can't offer to jump again though as I don't actually live in the UK but surely there must be some brave Mums out there somewhere...aren't there??

Fairyfly · 26/05/2004 13:08

Thomcat i would love to do it, i don't really want to leave my kids alone though. What is the risk ratio, do you know? I really want to though

Thomcat · 26/05/2004 13:12

LOL girls

Fairy - don't know risk ratio but probaly a lot safer than getting in your car everyday, crossing the road, flying abroad, etc! Don't suppose that hepls though!

Apparently more people get kicked to death by a donkey than .... can't finish that sentence!!!!!

Ixel · 26/05/2004 13:24

How much sponsorship do you have to raise to do it? I assume its one of those things where you need a minimum.

Thomcat · 26/05/2004 13:28

YES!!!!!! Come on girls.

Fairy - you have made me proud already, will email you right this very second.
You absolute angelfairy.

My dh has done it tc and said it was absolutely brilliant.

He said he was so busy gawping at the view that he missed the airfield, nearly clipped a pylon, frightened a horse so it threw it's rider and ended up in someone's garden party in Cambridgeshire with his parachute draped over their sycamore!!

They fed and watered him well until the parachute place came and picked him up.

best of luck - you are v v brave!!! I will sponsor you a tenner.

marthamoo · 26/05/2004 13:43

One of my friends did a parachute jump years ago. She had done all the training but once the plane got up in the air she bottled out. She told the instructor she had changed her mind and he persuaded her to shuffle over to the open hatch just to look. He managed to get her to hang her legs over the side, then shoved her out! She said she completely forgot the "one and one thousand, two and one thousand" countdown for when you open the 'chute and just screamed "F*ck!!!" then pulled the cord. Once the parachute opened she said it was the most amazing experience - and she couldn't wait to do it again.

Was that the kind of anecdote you were after, TC ? Good luck!!

Hulababy · 26/05/2004 14:16

Thomcat - how can we all go about offering sponserhip money?

Thomcat · 26/05/2004 14:23

CD, I nearly peed muyself then, that is a fantastic story! What a laugh. Marthamoo, yours didn't make me laugh quite as much, it was a differnt kind of peeing myself when I read yours!

hula - you little love, I've set up a website and will let you all have the link so you can sponsor me if you want. however if Essbee needs help in raising funds and wants to do it we should all sponsor her instead.

I don't mind who I sponser so long as the money goes to the charity anyway. So wherever it is best is good for me

jampot · 26/05/2004 14:47

The firm I used to work for had the chairman of hte BPA as it's head - he got his secretary first on a tandem jump then she got really hooked.

Make sure there are no helicopters around (a little accident at Thruxton you may remember!)

Good luck!
