learning to SWIM- best swim aids/ approach?

my 4.75 yr old dd has a history of going to swimming lessons and being v reluctant to join in, although she loves to splash about with me.

i'm keen to get her to learn to swim without her arm bands, and possibly arrange 1:1 lessons.

which approach is best, do you think:
armbands, floats or floatation suits?

and what about water depth- shallow or out of her depth, so that she can't walk around all the time?

TIA

Ds learned to swim with 1:1 lessons - he is 9 and was very nervous about being out of his depth. We found an excellent teacher at our local health club and it really helped him gain confidence - I can't tell you how proud I felt when he swam his first width. He has really benefitted from individual lessons and is learning proper strokes/techniques. The teacher uses floats and the big polystyrene woggle things and these worked really well.

Not armbands as they inhibit proper arm movement.

thanks but don't armbands have the advantge of letting you reduce the amount of air in them gradually?

You can do that with a float suit too though and they hold the body in a more natural swim position (apparently! DSs both learnt to swim from babies without anything so I've no actual experience)

ds's swimming teacher's granddaughter has float suit (is 3) and she learned with that
