I took some photos for my son's school during their Christmas Nativity. As I was just editing them I noticed that one little girl had a white pupil. I thought it was a case of red eye, so zoomed in to fix it. However, one pupil was black and the other white.

I looked at other pictures and they are all the same.

I got concerned because I am sure I have heard that this is how a mother diagnosed her daughter's eye cancer...retino something or another

Should I mention anything to the school? Does it sound like I am loopy?

ooh I was thinking about this too....

lissielou · 16/01/2007 10:07

my lilbro lost his eye to a retinablastoma and thats exactly how it was diagnosed. it can progress so quickly, hope everythings ok!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 16/01/2007 10:21

I know two people who had retina blastoma, the first was my best friend at school and my roommate in boarding school. Hers was picked up because of the change in colouration of the eyes. It is a form of cancer and it is hireditory. Unfortunately treatment usually involves removal of the eye. The other person was also diagnosed at 6 months and again he lost both eyes to the condition.

Now, I don't know whether this is at all relevant, but both these people went on to develop other kinds of cancer later in life. The first actually died at age 18, and the second has just recently been diagnosed with limfatic cancer and is undergoing treatment.

Hope this turns out not to be anything sinister.

Any news? either a response from head or medical response?

MamazonAKAfatty · 17/01/2007 14:48

I am hoping the school have realised just how worrying this is. If not maybe you could put a note in with the pictures and a copy of the information you have in an envelope and ask the class teacher to give it to this child's parents.

they really need to know so that they can do something urgently.

hi- panic over ( although dr said it was a pefrectly reasonable panic) I showed him the pic and he went 'ahhh I see' had a good look into ds's eyes and said he could see nothing behind the retina. I was worried before, my Bf worked at Bham childrens specifically with children with R blastoma, and I got a bit over panicked. But it seems to be ok.

thanks for asking!
