I love it but I hate playing make believe reincarnations of Snow White/Cinderella/I'm an Alien you're a shark, etc.

I love secretly listening to the latter though.

I guess I do get frustrated at poor concept of turn taking and flinging the plastic counters across the board every five seconds due to fidgetyness.

Mercy · 31/12/2006 17:04

I'm exactly the same Twiglett. I have to force myself to play for more than a few minutes tbh.

It was a novelty to start with, but now I get rather impatient

I like the board games and hate the make-believe ones - I'm sure I've been playing the 'what can I cook you' game with dd for nearly 4 years solidly now, sigh. I also hate the crafty stuff using sodding glitter, paint and glue - always a much better idea in theory than practice.

brimfull · 31/12/2006 17:16

me too I hate playing with ds because he likes mind numbing games with cars/trains/board/bored games and he doesn't like crafts.

I often feel guilty about it .....for a second .

LadyTophamHatt · 31/12/2006 17:18

Ds1 is the most horrendous cheat so I refuse to play any game that he's playing.

Crotchety · 31/12/2006 17:22

Not keen on games myself. Especially Kerplunk which involves threading bendy plastic sticks through thousands of holes for ages before you can play it - and then it lasts all of about 2 mins before you have to do it all over again. And Top Trumps is just never-ending!

tortoise · 31/12/2006 17:23

I love board games especially Cranium games like Cadoo,Bumperena,Balloon Laggoon.
They are Fun games not boring games!

Blossomhill · 31/12/2006 17:24

I love it but don't do it enough

paulaplumpbottom · 31/12/2006 17:25

I actually don't mind it. I hate reading pop up and touchy feely books and hate playing with her tool sets.

WideWebWitch · 31/12/2006 17:32

It depends.

I can do Top Trumps except it NEVER ends
I can do ludo, Cluedo, play doh that kind of thing
I can do reading lots of books
I can do watching a film/s
I can do a walk
I can do chatting

But I HATE playing, just can't do it. So I refuse to do it

RubberDuckInLeftoverCurry · 31/12/2006 17:34

Twig - can I borrow you? I will happily play games with your children, if you come and do all the creative stuff with mine... I can't STAND all the gluing, sticking, playdoh, paint, pens and all the setting up and clearing up that comes with it. Drives me mental.

fortyplus · 31/12/2006 17:35

I took mine to GoApe in the summer hols - BRILLIANT fun for us all! Better than board games, any day! They do have to be 10 years old and 140cm, though.

twinsetandpearls · 31/12/2006 17:40

I like games and creative stuff but can't bear lets pretend games or hvaing to watch childrens telly or films.

I like playing games but not the making up story type thing.Craft stuff is Ok too.

GoApe is Fab , I've been but kids are too little yet (plus dd1 is wimpy )

roisin · 31/12/2006 18:16

I used to enjoy playing games with them when they were little

I can't stand 'childish' games now though.

But I do enjoy games of strategy and logic - like Quarto, Connect4, Mastermind ... that sort of thing. We all play very competitively and play to win though, none of this bending the rules for the kids or anything like that!

mysonsmummy · 31/12/2006 19:05

i could have written this post myself. trouble is i really feel so guilty and beat myself up about it. ds spends most of the time saying 'mum please play with me'. i do enjoy it - it just dont happen enough.

IlanaK · 31/12/2006 19:14

My 5 year old is obsessed with playing games and chooses it above all else. We have quite a collection of them too. I learned early on not to buy (or allow anyone else to buy - where possible) any of the rubbishy games you find in most toy shops nowadays. They are so boring. I think someone mentioned the Winnie the Pooh game (with the sticks stuck into a honey pot). I once had to play that at someone else's house with the kids and almost stuck one of the sticks into my eye just to relieve the boredom. I hate games like that. But if you stick to classic board games (in our case junioor versions of monopoly, chardes, scrabble, etc) plus strategy games aimed at 7ish plus, then it can be really fun.

Tinker · 31/12/2006 19:15

Yes, like Connect4, Downfall and Uno type things. Detested the you be Milo and I'll be Fizz stuff.

www - can' believe anyone likes Ludo, that seems interminable.

JanH · 31/12/2006 19:23

Uno is good, also Jenga (esp when it crashes down) (and there is a Uno version of Jenga where you have to pull a particular colour/number)

I like Mastermind too, and Monopoly as long as it gets going evenly before some bastard gets all the money and the rest of you have to limp round on the verge of bankruptcy for the rest of your lives.

nikkie · 31/12/2006 19:29

I always end up playing the giant Jenga at youth club , always seems so much better than the small one

I don't mind Ludo
Tinker-I always had to be Milo!
