need to move in toy box and lego box from living room

.. thinking of getting a rug and some storage and bookshelves

no .. don't believe in kids-free zones in homes .. my kids can go anywhere .. I'd just like to utilise unused dining room

lol at emailing a dh who's on the sofa! It is fantastic Twig, I'm no gadget fiend, not really but I am a convert. No messing around with videos if you want to record things, you can pause live tv (so if you want a wee while, say The Apprentice or other longish BBC programme is on you can still come back and watch it), ff through adverts, and you can record on one channelk while watching another. I am very pleased we've got it. We recorded a lot of xmas films and programmes on it.

foxtrot · 30/12/2006 19:06

LOL at you emailing your DH - across the room!!
I would get a freeview/DVD so they can have cbeebies and DVDs. But no comfy chairs so they won't sit still and gawp at the box for hours on end .

foxtrot · 30/12/2006 19:07

oh i thought you were raving about Sky+, which is brill, but that humax thingy looks good too.

popsycal · 30/12/2006 19:16

which have just got bt vision (sort of frreebie from dh;s work) and it sounds like sky plus
it is great

We've got two tv's in our playroom - one video/tv combi, dvd & freeview, one just has the ps2 linked to it but no ariel. We seem to spend all our time in this room and the grown up lounge and dining room are hardly used - it's lovely to go into them and have no toys though

wrappingpaperBOwZZAndribbons · 30/12/2006 19:37

If the living room/lounge* is not to be kids free there is maybe not too much point in the TV - I assume the rooms are adjacent. We have a reasonably similar set up. Kitchen with table where we eat, dining room with table where we only eat when we have guests (kitchen table not big enough) and living room with TV but hardly any toys because they are virtually all kept upstairs.

*when I was growing up in the north it was still the custom to have a living room at the back of the terraced house with dining table, TV, a couple of chairs etc in, and then a front room/lounge at the front for best. My Mum and Dad still call their dining room the living room. It houses, the dining table, piano (never played), computer etc.

I wonder where that random apostrophe after houses came from.

Twiglett · 30/12/2006 19:54

dunno bozza .. but I think someone came and beat it on the head .. because now its a random comma

Long day, long week, too much time spent with my family, what else can I say.

iota · 30/12/2006 19:56

don't forget the beer fridge as well Twiggy

Pablothelittleredfox · 30/12/2006 20:15

yes - mine have TV, video, DVD player, sky box and PS1 in their room.

sod it - at least I don't have to suffer the irritating jingles on Playhouse Disney

notanotter · 30/12/2006 20:17

no no no - if its there they will watch it if its not they wont......

Pablothelittleredfox · 30/12/2006 20:19

Our lounge is a 'kids free zone' for the most part. I don't care - our TV is huge and cost a bomb so I don't want small ds climbing on it (which he does). Plus, he likes to eat teh coal out of the fireplace and then drop it on my beige carpet. And he likes to flop on our nice sofas wiping his snotty nose on them.

In the winter I guess they do have the tv on a lot but they don't really watch it (I go in and turn it off aaaaall the time) and whenever the weather is dry they are outside.

You are in charge so just because the stuff is in there doesn't mean they have unlimited use of it.

Twiglett · 30/12/2006 20:21

who told you I was in charge

We have, yesterday, converted our dining room to a playroom, and have moved the small portable telly from the kitchen which has a freeview box into the newly arranged room. So far, I am the only one to actually watch it as I watched the 6 o'clock news tonight. I am expecting it to become more used as we get used to it, and my reason for having it in there is that our main "living" room is in our cellar, which can lead to ds down there watching tv alone when I am cooking etc, and I would prefer him nearer. Also, dh is going to be working away half the week from January, so I will have to do more around the house and would prefer the playroom on the same floor or one floor away from me when I am doing the chores. And new baby arrives in May and will need more space for more stuff!

poinsettydog · 30/12/2006 22:25

YEEEAAARRRRRGGG! TELEVISION IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD!!!

poinsettydog · 30/12/2006 22:26
