Some pig in the supermarket picked up my wallet where i handily left it after packing my groceries.

i have cancelled the one credit card that was in there but cannot find any info on the dvla website on what to do about my picture ID. of course its got all the information needed to steal my identity.

i am never carrying the bastard around with me again after it is replaced.

and now i have to replace my wallet too. i loved it!

I don't know what you have to do but I hate to tell you I had all sorts of trouble when mine was stolen. I got umpteen court summons because some prat was driving like a tw*t on my license.

Got sorted in the end though!

Think they keep it on record so all you have to do is ring up for a replacement. dh just got reissued his earlier this year,

LIZS · 30/12/2006 18:54

here .

£19 to replace! they know when they have got you by the balls, don't they.

i am more bothered by someone using my details to apply for credit cards, etc, etc in my name.

If you report it quickly, hopefully they wont be able to, the loans etc, the bits to sign will come to your address first?

SHHHHitsthe2007countdown · 30/12/2006 22:44

Your drivers licence can't be cancelled so unfortunatly yes they do have you ID.But theres nowt you can do about it...sadly.

DH's wallet was stolen while abroard on a stag weekend in Aug, we only realised his dl was in it after a week or so. Its crazy that they charge 19 quid to replace. They advised me that dl's are not meant to be carried around with you as you would never take a passport around daily with you...Never thought of this but suppose it makes sense.

CountessDracula · 30/12/2006 22:55

dh had his stolen years ago

For ages he used to get refund cheques from car hire companies when the person had overpaid!

So maybe not all bad?

Bonus !!!!!

Hi Sorry to butt in but I have work in a finance company and i would really recommend you to get a hold of your credit file and continue to keep an eye on it as even cancelled cards etc can be used as a ID for getting credit and with your driving license they have all your details.
Things such as store cards can be spent on instantly in store on day of application.
Hope not to alarm you but I come across this too often.
Hope this helps

x

kiskidee · 30/12/2006 23:20

thanks mrs j. i only had one credit card in it and don't have any store cards. i was thinking just a little while ago that i will have to monitor my credit file for a while. what is the best way of doing that, if you don't mind me picking your brains?

i see what you mean shhh. unfortuneatley i lived in the US as well where it is almost a necessity to carry you dl with you at all times so i did it out of habit.

thanks. for your imput so far everyone.

thing is I still have my dl with me in my purse...like you said habit and also so many places want ID nowadays so its an ideal form...

Crazy that these days they have no way of cancelling it iykiwm..

MrsJ · 30/12/2006 23:58

unfortunately one credit card could and often is enough to get other credit on, it certainly is with some retailer that we deal with and they are large high street names, and unfortunately not all store assistants are too picky and careful with such things so i would highly recommend you to keep a check on it now and then again in the next 3 months at least.
You can get a copy from companies like Experian it costs about £2.00- £2.50 for a copy so money well spent. they do free versions on line but they arent any good not as in depth so definitely pay.
Heres a link to their web site.www.experian.co.uk/
If you contact them they may be able to advise you better than myself.

Really hope it all works out for you!

LIZS · 31/12/2006 10:40

Most companies wouldn't just accept the card as id to support applications but want to see the paper bit too. That is why you should keep them separately.

MrsJ · 31/12/2006 19:58

unfortunately i was referring to the credit card that can be used as ID and the driving license they can use to gain the personal details, as in full name, address and DOB
