SAFETY IN TRIPP TRAPP CHAIR

Hi, I've just joined because I was trying to find a web site that might make trays that fit the Tripp Trapp high chair. I was at a baby group last week and heard of a friend of a friend whose son was rocking the chair so violently against the table that he pushed himself over backwards. He was rushed to A&E and thankfully all was ok.

Anyway to cut to the chase I called up Stokke who told me that although they don't make trays and have no plans to do so in the future, they have heard rumours of a company in the States who make them though they have been unable to find it for me. Anyone heard of anything like this? My son is already pretty strong at 9 months so I am keen to look into it.

Must fly more banana to mop up.

Any ideas/thoughts on the tripp trapp safery issues very welcome, thank you

Hello JoW - I've just posted you on the highchair thread!

What about adding a harness ? You can put them on highchairs to. I have a harness on my dd's highchair.

Simple idea - how about pulling it out just slightly so that it can't make contact with the table?

I'd have thought, having seen friends' "ordinary" high chairs, that most of the them are LESS stable than a Tripp Trapp if you have a child determined to rock the chair - tray or no tray!

I'd add my support to Tillysmummy about the harness - dead easy to add (we just bought the standard harness from Mothercare) and then you know your baby can't climb/fall out.

Hi - I just had to answer this thread!! We bought a trip trap chair a month or so ago and proudly put our youngest in it (in a harness). Sat down to dinner,he put his feet against the table and the chair just tipped over backwards sending him crashing to the ground. Unfortunately he also managed to hit the ironing board on the way down!
He was ok after that horrible silent purple sort of crying but had a huge shock and bump on the back of his head. The thing was that we were all sitting there and couldnt stop it in time - also totally unprepared for it to do that!

The thing is that if you have a tray the chair isnt near enough to the table for them to reach with their legs. The whole point of the trip trap is for the child to be able to eat at the table with the rest of the family (he eats directly off the table now rather than his highchair tray!) so I was really shocked that it was possible for him to do that.

I meant to phone or write to trip trap but as usual never quite got round to it. What we have done is got a new table (needed one anyway) with not much of a rim? (not sure what the name for the bit is, pushed the trip trap slightly under the table top, and put him round the side next to the piano so if he were to do it again he would only fall back a very short way!

I am sure there is something essentially wrong in the design - surely the bottom leg bit should be longer (not so good on the technical furniture bit names!)

Anyway glad to have been able to rant about it - not sure what the answer is really. I mean the whole point of the chair would be ruined if they added a tray to it (although it would seem a bit safer like that).

It does look nice though!
