Gymnastics classes

I recently enquired about gym classes for 5 year old dd and 3 year old ds. Ds currently goes to Tumble Tots but will have to finish when he starts nursery at half term. There is a gym club at dd's school but it clashes with ballet.

The 3-5 year old class is full but the 5-7 year old class is an hour a week and costs £30 for a 12 week term. That sounds pretty cheap to me but apparently there are up to 45 gymnasts on the course. Surely that wouldn't be all in the one group. Does anyone else's dc go to a gym club (this is a council run one) this would be a recreational class, children are invited to join a squad if and when they are good enough.

WOuld 45 be about right or would they be sub-divided into groups of less with a teacher each. I was expecting maybe around 15 in a group.

My other option is Little Gym which sounds fantastic but at the moment I can't afford it at around £140 per term. A lot of dd's friends go to Little Gym and she has been asking to go which is why I thought a gym class might be a good alternative.

The council run club has a good reputation, when I was at school I had friends who went there and who competed.

If it's council-run IME it will adhere to whatever guidelines are legally required. But prob best to give them a call after the holidays.

Hiya

We went to The Little Gym but it is sooooo expensive and soooooooo embarrassing and American.

I couldnt bear it!

We go to Tumbletots and I am now wondering if we go to the same one and if I 'know' you!!!

Why dont you go at the weekends and do the Saturday morning session?

julienetmum · 24/12/2006 01:15

I go to Tumbletots over in Meir as it is the only one I can get to as I work on the other days.

I'm, not free on Saturdays as we run Stagecoach then. There are a few of dd's classmates in who go to the Saturday session though, twin girls and there is another girl who dd went to nursery with name beginning with A.

Do the twin girls names begin with E and L? and have an older bro and sis?

Hi Julie - I used to compete and coach and there is no way you can have 45 kids in one group .
They may do a warm up with all children together, but then they will probably break into groups dependent on age/ability, ideally less than 10 per coach. Can you not to a taster at each of them before you commit to a term to see which your chlldren prefer?

julienetmum · 25/12/2006 00:56

Their names are M & L, don;t know of any older siblings.

Thanks for the info Strangetown. The email said that they can't confirm a place for dd until they receive the fees so I guess I would have to take a chance if I wanted to visit and have a look that there would still be a place left. They don't have a place for ds as it is.

DS1 goes to a gym class. There are about 20 children in the group, but after the warm up they break into groups of 4-5 children. We pay £4.50 a session, which is a 45 min session.

wethreebobkings · 25/12/2006 03:46

I took ds to one that had no limit - one member of staff, you were expected to supervise your children yourself - which of course isn't feasible if you have 2 preschoolers. I was horrified and didn't go back. It was cheap though.

julienetmum · 29/12/2006 00:21

Well dh says that she can't go unless she gives something else up. I can't see her agreeing to give ballet or Stagecoach up (nor would I want her to) so it looks like a no goer.

He is concerned she will be doing too much and we will be pushy parents makeing her burn out.
