Since the birth of my DD I can't get out of the house to excercise like I used to, so I thought a DVD might be a good solution.
Can anyone recommend one that gives a decent level of workout and is interesting enough to do regularly?

Hi Ruth Chan, I was an exercize DVD addict once, so I've had them all. The BEST EVER is Nell McAndrew, She's got three but it's her very first one that is a SERIOUS workout. 'Peak Energy' it makes you SWEAT ur bojangles off.

It's basically 40 mins running on the spot, so it's not exactly gripping but it is hard work and you feel fantastic after it. I only stopped because I live in a first floor flat and my downstairs neighbour complained that i sounded like a herd of elephants. But I was so fit from doing the DVD that I started running outside instead (and am still doing so now.) If I go away I take the DVD with me and do it from the Lap Top. Its also got a fab 10 min arm section (words can't describe how effective it is) I think they have help make my arms one of my best features.

If you cannot tell, i Loooooove this DVD and looooove the chance to recommend it. I have had it copied for many o friends! (but shhhh dont tell anyone that part)

I'll send you davina and charlie brooks for a tenner (for both).

I'm a gym bunny now, but they are both good if you cant get out the house much

Thanks for the recommendation. I've read about Nell McAndrew on the internet. She's the one who ran the London Marathon, isn't she.
I had a look on Amazon and have just placed an order. It won't be here in time for Christmas, but should help me work off the festive bulges!

Thanks for the offer of your DVDs, but I actually live in Japan rather than England, so asking you to send them would get a bit complicated.
Going out to the gym and the pool...those were the days...

Hey RuthChan,

Great to hear u placed an order for the Nell one. It'll certainly burn the calories. Running 10 mins = 100 calories. And it's basically running on spot with a few varied arm moves. I think Nells instructor must have been in the army! He's a right stickler.

Xmas is a time for induldgence! (Not my only time so it seems!) So hopefully u will get ur vid to kick start the new year! Do let us know how u get on with it.

Merry Xmas.

Thanks!! I'll let you know how I get on.
Yeah, Christmas is definitely a time for indulgence, but not in Japan. Here it's just another ordinary day and we have to wait until New Year for the traditions and parties to start.

Have an extra slice of turkey for me!!

Does anyone have any of the ministry of sound ones? Are they any good? Or would I be better off finding a workout on the net & doing it to the music?

Sorry for the hijack.

RuthChan · 28/12/2006 13:16

Please...hijack away.
The Ministry of Sound does excercise videos?!! Now that sounds interesting!

Davina is really good and i enjoy the pump it up one, when you stop being jelous of their super slim/fit bodies it is a fantastic workout....

Blondilocks · 28/12/2006 18:34

lol.. but maybe seeing how thin they are would be a good motivator?!

Another alternative would be small exercise items that you can have at home - eg I have a stepper thing & a thigh toner (but they do get a bit boring).

Would love a cross trainer if I had room for one.

The first Pump it Up DVD by Ministry of Sound is absolutely brilliant. Its the one that features the people from the Eric Prydz video "Call on Me". I'm quite fit and I was sweating buckets by the time I got to the High Energy section. Not for the faint hearted.

Nell McAndrew's Maximum Impact is strenuous as is Peak Energy but I prefer the former.

If you are short on time and want an effective workout, Davinia MaCall's Power of 3 is excellent as is Billy Blank's Get Ripped. For a more genteel workout, the LBD workout by Zoe Lucker is not bad, especially if you are a beginner (I tend to do it when I'm not feeling energetic). Interestingly, my 2yo DTS like to participate with this one - I have not work out if they like the movements or enjoy copying Lucker and her trainer(lol).

Today I ordered David Kirsch's Ultimate Fitness Bootcamp because the reviews are excellent and he helped Heidi Klum back into shape after pregnancy.

Piffle · 10/01/2007 13:42

davinas power of 3 is excellent I also found the Charlie Brooks one great fun and effective.

laneydaye · 10/01/2007 13:44

charlie brooks is good, a nice one to get you started.
davina is a bit harder and grewat when you have started to get into it more.
Pump it up is just brilliant if you are ready to go for it!!!

they are my fsavourit 3...

Have just started Davina for my post-xmas fighting the flab thing. Loving it so far. She's really friendly; doesn't seem so 'Oh look at my fab body' as some of them.
