Very very excited. Have been reading chicken books avidly (thank you Soupy!). Will of course do a full thread when the first omelette is cooked.

mothernature · 20/05/2004 12:13

No more names to suggest at the moment, but thought this would make interesting reading for you...

princesspeahead · 20/05/2004 13:11

THEY ARE HERE! I'M A CHICKEN FARMER!!!
They are clucking gently in their ark, eating grain and drinking from the water thingie and looking deeply relaxed. Two of them are very pretty speckledy black ones with red combs, and two of them were sold to me as a "soft dove grey" but actually look exactly like dirty london pigeons. In chicken form, obviously. If they aren't fantastic layers, they are going to be lunch, and I'll get some pretty white or buff coloured ones instead!

Your names are all wonderful - boys names are definately OUT (so there go bungle, zippy et al which I rather liked). Emma, there is no way I'm calling them "stuff it" even if that is how the pigeon-y ones end up!!! Rather taken by Korma, Pasanda, etc - Very good. What about Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha?!

aloha · 20/05/2004 13:22

LOVE it PPH. What names do the ugly ones get?

princesspeahead · 20/05/2004 13:25

Miranda, definately. OOOh, then it is a bit difficult.

Maybe I should just call the uglies ugly names. How about Glenda and Dolores? And the glamorous ones could be Tallulah and Pepita or something entertaining

oliveoil · 20/05/2004 13:25

Bart, Lisa, Marge, Homer...er and Maggie. Can you not buy another one?

bundle · 20/05/2004 13:30

parsley sage rosemary & thyme?

princesspeahead · 20/05/2004 13:31

Hey - Marge - now that is a FABULOUS name for a chicken! Especially and ugly one. Any more trailer-trash girls names you can think of? Marge - I love it...

princesspeahead · 20/05/2004 13:32

Marge and Norma? Lol

bundle · 20/05/2004 13:35

brenda, phyllis and ethel sound quite clucky

SoupDragon · 20/05/2004 13:39

Definitely Ethel. Gladys?

Fio2 · 20/05/2004 13:41

Chantelle

Fio2 · 20/05/2004 13:41

Barbara

princesspeahead · 20/05/2004 15:52

brilliant, brilliant names. brenda, ethyl and gladys! I like Maud as well.

I've decided the pigeon-like ones have to go. however I have decided against eating them - they aren't fat enough yet - so I've put an ad in our free newspaper and am getting two pretty light sussex ones tomorrow am (I am nothing if not ruthless in my decisiveness.)

I shall tell the children that they are just here to settle the others in and are only staying until Monday!

princesspeahead · 20/05/2004 15:53

ps the pigeons came free with the coop (presumeably because they were so ugly) so I don't have any compunction in passing them on. "free to a good home" - that should have them beating down the door round our way

bundle · 20/05/2004 15:54

love nancy too
