Do you tip your hairdresser and/or the person who washes your hair?

It's a continual question for me - I watch other people tip the person who washes my hair, and some who tip the hairdresser and I've never really understood if this is 'correct' etiquette at the hairdresser. I always tip in restaurants and I always tip taxi drivers, but somehow I feel it's unnecessary at the hairdresser - mainly because it's so bloody expensive! At £40+ for a straightforward cut and blow dry I really resent paying more on top of that. Or am I just being mean?

what do you do?

Why the bump?

I used to when I was working full time and could afford it but now do so only at Christmas - a haircut costs me more than I earn in a day so doesn't seem necessary iyswim...
