Mine is soaking in the bath - again after lasagne. It's taken the best part of an hour to take apart, clean and now soak in the bath. The straps are disgusting, all discoloured and it looks about 5 years old, but ive only been using it a month or so! Three meals a day, trying to keep the damn thing clean is making me go mad! Id bin it, but it cost £100... do tripp trapps have the same problem? And if you have one of these stupid padded ones, how on eartn do you keep it clean and hygenic?

Many Thanks! xxx

I have a Tripp TRapp. Been in use almost daily or the past 4 years or so. Still looks in great condition, with just a regular wipe over and no major cleaning required.

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 21:55

argh, excuse spelling, can't be bothered to correct all the words ive got wrong

Buy a molded from one piece Antelop from IKEA.
Brilliant value at £20 and you can just take it outside and hose it down.

I jave a Tripp Trapp too and yes, they get grubby.

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 21:55

AH - tripp trapp... maybe I have some convincing DH that we need one...

TinsellyRhino · 12/12/2006 21:56

I don't, mine is minging, I hate it

it's chicco padded one and I am going to get a tripp trapp for the next baby

that is if I am right about the tripp trapp being much better than these unweilding padded ones, could the owners of tripp trapps please tell us they are better

I take the straps off and put them in the washing mahine but they are navy so don't show too bad

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 21:56

yes, been recommened that one quite abit (mainly Aitch!) Probably worth the petrol money to Ikea to get one...

i take it apart every week. its not easy coz ds loves throwing food around, try getting a vvv cheap one as an alternative

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 22:01

I have to take mine apart at least twice a day Lunch is a faily clean affair, sandwiches or something, but breakfast when he has weetabix, and dinner... with mash, lasagne and all that... it gets in every crevice. Yuk.

I've got an East Coast wooden one, with a seperate seat padding bit so that can be taken out and wiped (though I never do). Thing with the straps, I learnt very quickly, is to strap DC into chair and then put a full bib on top - one with arms. Keeps the straps nice and clean! Otherwise, just wipe stuff up straight away and use an old toothpaste now and then to scrub off any hardened on bits you might have missed.

With great deal of difficulty and a lowering of hygiene standards.

I cope by thinking that his immune system must be really robust now.

doyouwantfrankincensewiththat · 12/12/2006 22:08

Racers - I have the east coast wooden jobbie too (too cruel to buy the padding for it), you can unscrew the straps & bung 'em in the washing machine....at least that's what I did after ds threw up over them last night.

Am now thinking I should put the high chair on an old shower curtain rather than the rug because wet vacuuming that last thing at night is a PITA

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 22:09

I try and balance the mucky (clean, but mucky) straps with a good spray of dettol... at least I guess they are germ free stains!

mine is minging. it has so many crevices that food gets welded into. i soak the straps as often as possible, but i am fast losing the battle. so dd3 eats most meals using dd2 breezi chair (sn version of tripp trapp) and will be getting her her own tripp trapp in the new year. apparently they are changign the design or something, not sure.

doyouwantfrankincensewiththat · 12/12/2006 22:10

you know its amazing what you can throw in a washing machine - how are the straps fixed to the chair?

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 22:12

Franki - twice a day? I guess maybe for a good wash that sounds OK - I didn't think of that

OP posts:
FairyTaleOfNewYork · 12/12/2006 22:12

the straps on mine are riveted.

i am known to take thinsg apart and chuck anyhting washable in the washing machine. i keep a screwdriver handy in the kictehn drawer.

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 22:12

oh, sorry, straps come off

doyouwantfrankincensewiththat · 12/12/2006 22:18

Only washed in dire emergencies (they smelled of baby sick [ugh emoticon]), otherwise I agree with partridge about challenging his immune system - just not when he's already sick.

regret unstitching the pushchair upholstery to throw in the washing machine- using a braddle is also a PITA

Quootiepie · 12/12/2006 22:18

braddle?

OP posts:
doyouwantfrankincensewiththat · 12/12/2006 22:27

think that's what its called..needle with wooden handle attached, you push it through fabric too tough to be stitched normally and pick up the thread in the same way as a sewing machine does...imagine stitching upholstery back onto a backpack frame...PITA

BulbMovingTouchyShoulderGhost · 12/12/2006 22:27

Mine seems to stay quite clean with just a quick wipe down, but there are a couple of crevices near the bottom of the legs where bits of food can collect, so at the weekend we used our steam cleaner on it. First time we've done that in 5 months, and DD is very messy. The chair we have is this (although it looks like they've changed the seat padding in the last couple of months, so don't know if that would make it harder or easier to clean)

(Oh, it's CSWS btw, with a temp name)

FLAMEinEckItsYuleAgain · 12/12/2006 23:21

You're not really my ghoster???

snowleopard · 12/12/2006 23:37

Ours was given to us by a friend after years of use - I took it apart in the garden to clean it and found the most horrendous stashes of dried, congealed rot in all its joints and tubes - ugh. I spent hours cleaning it till it weas lovely in typical new mum fashion. Now I just wash the tray in the sink with washing up liquid, wipe the rest down and try not to think about the nooks and crannies...

bctmum · 12/12/2006 23:40

have an ikea highchair - a quick wipe down and all clean - before had a peg perego chair with a cloth harness - a real pita as could never get this really clean. Only realised that you were meant to unstcrew the harness to clean!! - even then with the buckle difficult. How is this possible to do after every meal!! - the ikea chair is fab! - plus fits perfect at the table.
