getting rid of b.o. smells from clothes?

Since my brother split up from his partner he's been turning up a lot with washing to do. I don't mind but I'm bothered by how much b.o. seems ingrained into the armpits of his jumpers and t-shirts (he has a very active job) and I can't seem to wash it out. I've tried scrubbing in the sink before putting them in the washing machine but I can't lose the smell.

Any brilliant tips?

If you've scrubbed them then other than boil washing them (not a good idea with the jumpers I guess) then I think he really should just buy some more.

I've thought about that but it seems a shame to just chuck so many good clothes away.

I know

Have you tried using an odour neutraliser like Oust? Just looked up odour removal on Google and found that sprinkling bicarbonate of soda on items and leaving overnight and/or soaking in vinegar.

That's a good idea, thanks, I'll look out some Oust and some bicarb. of soda. And if not I'll have to tell him they've hit the bin! He spends such a lot on his clothes then sweats all over them.

Do you use bio washing powder? That's generally more effective at cleaning organic deposits.
Don't throw them out, I'm sure it doesn't bother him as he obviously gets smelly fairly quickly at work so what's the point of an hour or 2's morning freshness in his line of work?
Also, get the kids to get him some anti-perspirant (not deodorant) spray for Christmas!

I don't use bio actually as dd's prone to eczema. Maybe I could get some for just his things though. It's really quite pungent though I think I may need something more than that.

He won't use deodorant or antipersperant. He showers every morning and takes great care of his appearance - he's gay so it all counts with him. He changes his clothes all the time.

you could get a bio powder for washing then run the machine again on a quick wash with non-bio.

borax

Will definitely try a bio powder tomorrow.
