A poster who joined in the s2 live watch threads kept commenting on how the horses were the wrong breed or something fluffy - said they were not strong enough to be used by the Musketeers (poss more carriage horses?) & that Porthos's horse was more authentic. And their head carriage was far too high yadda yadda - could smack into your face etc etc.

Wench conclusion : why the fuck would anyone focus on the horse when there's a hbf on it's back?

Good explanation Helen, really the horses are as gorgeous as the rest of the cast, but I have heard it said amongst other horsey types that Friesians are arrogant looking. They're quite showy I suppose, I think they're beautiful.
