Don't know express but it could be that it's filtering them out because of the file type. Some firewalls/email servers are set up to stop certain file types with certain extensions ie. ones that end .exe. Yours could be stopping all files that end .jpg or .bmp.

It's only a guess. I may be wrong.

Best way to tell is to change the name of the file e.g from 'myphoto.jpg' to 'myphoto.old' and then try sending it to yourself. If it lets it through then this is the problem and hopefully some other lovely Mnetter will know where in express/your firewall to look to change your settings.

There's an option in OE which says something like "stop me opening files that may be harmful" If you uncheck the box, you can view the attachments. Hang on I'll check...

"Do no allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" - uncheck the box.

I think (from memory) that that option doesn't allow you access to ANY files with a certain ending whether they are viruses or not. I have that box ticked and I cannot open any pictures that get sent to me, virus or no virus. It is a restrictive setting but it allows you to screen what comes in and if you want to open it, then switch it off and back on afterwards.

foxinsocks · 15/05/2004 07:04

and yes, it is a pain but I'd rather have that than a virus sending emails to all my contacts!!

SoupDragon · 15/05/2004 10:13

I have the box unchecked all the time and my AV software scans every file that comes in (and goes out). Any file that gets through my AV software and that provided by my ISP servers is probably safe. If yur AV software is up to date then having OE block every file that may be a virus is simply a PITA.

Doesn't your AV software scan files? Make sure the box "automatically download message when viewing in the preview pane" (Tools, Options, Read) isn't checked as I think this has security issues. When my software has been running properly, I've not had any virus problems and loads have been caught and stopped from coming in.

Oh, and Win ME is rubbish We've just upgraded from ME to XP and a lot of problems have disappeared. Obviously some new ones have popped up to take their place but hat's to be expected. I believe that ME is widely held to be the c**p version of Windows.

Oddly enough, ME came with our PC too. XP seems to be more robust so far (cue PC crashing immediately).
