Probably quite nice if you can afford to join the Hurlingham Club and hang out there

notnigella · 03/12/2006 19:07

i wish - with a mortgage on a house there i won't be joining anything ever again!

Ah so what's your motivation for going North?
The parks are much nicer in Battersea

foxinsocks · 03/12/2006 19:14

It is nice round there - if you ever drive anywhere, the traffic is a pain in the backside. Fulham Palace road is often like a car park and wandsworth bridge road has its moment. I know everywhere in London is bad in places but Fulham always seems to be traffic hell whenever I drive through it.

Fulham covers a bigger area so there is much more housing stock than Battersea, so you get more for your money. Also, think need a complete change of scene. Know Batt too well and there are only 3 roads where we wld like to live - all way out of our price range. Where are you?

I know traffic is a nightmare, but it is everywhere in London. I used to work in Hsmtih, just of FulPalRd and must have spent years of my life sitting in traffic. Why do people think buslanes are a good idea

thought I should warn you in case you didn't know! we lived in Hammersmith for years and I was always rather glad we didn't live south of the big hammersmith roundabout (for traffic reasons!).

notnigella · 03/12/2006 20:33

fox, do you live in fulham now?

no - we have friends who live just off the Fulham Palace road. I like it round that South Park Area. I lived in Putney pre kids and then Hammersmith after we had them and then moved further out of London due to money really - we were always in flats and couldn't afford a house at the time.

notnigella · 03/12/2006 20:41

thanks, it seems like a nice area bit is definitely on the outskirts of fulham, so wondered if it safe. i did the comparison on upmystreet with where we live now. fulham is definitely posher by socio-economic profile, but also more minor crime such as car break ins etc. am currenlty in a flat which feels v secure, and am a little apprehensive about being more vulnerable in a house.

I felt a bit like that when we moved to our house. I think it's quite a normal feeling (if that helps).

Have you driven round that area at night? I always think you get a good feeling for the safeness of an area once it has gone dark.

Pre-kids I used to live in one of the mansion blocks on the New Kings Rd
Parsons Green and the Fulham Rd is good
Can't really remember ever going down to South Park but Wandsworth Bridge Rd always seemed a bit on the grottier side

notnigella · 04/12/2006 13:03

yes, its not quite kings rd, but then its not quite kings rd prices either. estate agents tell me the peterboro estate side - i.e. - south park - is more desirable (read more expensive) than the other side known as the "burys"

unbelievably, our offer (over the asking price btw) has been rejected. the market is completely messed up! guess we'll carry on slumming it in battersea
