If you think elephants have it tough with 22 month gestation then spare a thought for them at conception...
The boy elephant at Whipsnade had its willy out when I last went there and I'll swear it was as thick as its leg!! [wince emoticon]

paulaplumpbottom · 03/12/2006 11:46

I wonder if they get nausea in the first trimester. That would be miserable.

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 03/12/2006 12:05

For the keepers as well as the elephant...

[imagines drowning in elephant sick]

Can you feed ginger biscuits to elephants? You used to be able to feed them currant buns...

fortyplus · 03/12/2006 12:13

At Whipsnade they give them dog biscuits as a treat. Do they come in gingernut flavour?!

aliceband · 03/12/2006 12:27

sorry to spoil things, but little thought that it's not right to do scans on animals, just a little thought

paulaplumpbottom · 03/12/2006 12:43

Why would that be Alice? We do them on humans?

aliceband · 03/12/2006 12:56

i know, it was just myknee jerk reaction. and i knew other people would say, well we do it on humans.. it's just they don't have um.. the ability to say no to it

fortyplus · 03/12/2006 13:00

But maybe thinking that they ought to have the right to say no is anthropomorphising them? I mean, I'm no veggie but we think it's ok to kill animals for meat so having a scan is nothing, really.

ballbaby · 03/12/2006 13:01

Something I've never understood - when animals have an umbilical cord - who clamps it?????!!!!! Also where do they get the really big maternity pads from?

fortyplus · 03/12/2006 13:09

Funny that anilmals don't bleed for ages after birth like we do - wonder why that is? Never thought of that before.

aliceband · 03/12/2006 16:30

well a dog's season is only yearly isn't it? not monthly.

paulaplumpbottom · 03/12/2006 17:48

I'm not sure exactly 40 plus, but I think its because we stand upright. I think its suppose to cause us more trauma

fortyplus · 04/12/2006 09:30

I know we're the only animals that bleed when we're not fertile - if other animals bleed at all it's when they're 'on heat'.
