Daft Question re: Emla Cream and Waxing

Okay, the duck is embarrassingly a hairy duck, but not only that is a complete wuss.

I can cope with hairs being ripped out of my lady garden, out my armpits and off my legs, but the one thing that sends me squeaking over the hills and far away is eyebrow waxing.

Now without it, I look like... erm... that politician blokey who had huge bushy eyebrows (that would have been funnier had I actually remembered his name) so it's not just vanity. Okay, it's about 99.9% vanity.

Anyway, I was thinking of using EMLA cream to numb the area a bit so I don't come out looking like I've been weeping all night. Only the instructions say not in eye (well duh) OR near the eye.

[Drum roll for the actual question if you got this far]

Are eyebrows too close to the eye in the "near the eye" scenario? Are there any other wusses out there who use EMLA cream for waxing, particularly for their eyebrows. Am I just a paranoid duck as well as a vain one?

The appointment is in just under an hour so I need a fairly fast answer, oh mumsnet gurus

Bump, anyone?

Dennis Healey?

I wouldn't.

Think the cream would mean the wax wouldn't stick to the hairs, so wouldn't work so well.

Does the woman who does it warm the brow with a warm cloth first?

RubberDuck · 30/11/2006 12:48

Dennis Healey - that's the man

Hmm, good point

She doesn't warm it no - does that make it hurt less? Will beg ... erm ... suggest she does that!!

warming is supposed to dilate the hair follicles, so the hair comes out more easily. i remember reading in Jackie that that was the thing to do before plucking!

RubberDuck · 30/11/2006 12:53

Ah... Jackie... that brings back some memories

[looks at the time] I suppose I'd better get off my arse and actually go...

Ta for the tips

I tried emla cream when I went to have my eyebrows plucked. DON'T BOTHER!! It didn't work!!

RubberDuck · 30/11/2006 14:05

I didn't bother... I didn't get the washcloth either [whimper]

I've gone for the "got raging hayfever in the middle of winter" look instead... [sigh]
