It's a bugger really as blackcurrant squashes are the only ones that DD will really drink.

She does like pure apple juice but I find it is a bit too acidic and causes her to get a rash around her bits (I assume this is due to acidity of the urine as a result of the apple juice). A cartoin a day in her lunchbox is as much as she can have without the side effects.

I've heard this too, from other mums, but I don't have any info.

Haven't found this with blackcurrant - but apple juice will make DD wet the bed. She loves it but can't have it after 4pm. She once had an apple juice ice lolly after tea and it had the same effect. Don't know why!

vintage MN thread here

  • haven't found anything hard and scientific though.

Dilute the apple juice with water - do it gradually but you can get as high as 1 part apple to 6 parts water

Blackcurrant/otange/peach etc (all coloured juices - even natural (freshly squozen) ones) have compounds in them that iritate the bladder

You should avoid coloured drinks about 3 hours before bedtime

I should really daft but you shouldencourage a bedwetting child to drink loads during the day (stopping about the same time 3 hrs before bedtime)

The most important drink is the first drink of the day as it wakes up the kidneys...then if you drink all day (without gaps) when you go to bed you should have enough of the hormone in your body to put the kidnneys to sleep again - but If you have long dry spells during the day- the hormone is used so you won't have enough at night

Orange fruit juice has the same effect as blackcurrant. And orange 'drink' is even worse.

Thanks for those tips KatyMac (and everyone else for their posts too )
