I have started threads of this nature dozens (it seems) of times. We have been looking for a place to put down roots for ages and have asked Mnetters their opinions about where they live.

Now, we have found a house in rural (mile and a half out of Winchcombe) Glous. and wonder if anyone can give me some input on the area. We lived in Cheltenham about 10 years ago (pre-children) so our memories of the area are a bit hazy.

What can you tell me? The good...the bad....and the downright ugly!!!!!??????

My parents used to live in Winchcombe and my sis still does, lovely part of the world. Whereabouts is the house?

Gretton. Someplace called "Far Stanley". I remember Winchcombe being a lovely bit of the world.

I spent my sixth form days working at the Royal Oak in Gretton, nice olde worlde pub, good food, we still go there for family get togethers. I think the local primary schools are pretty good, would head towards Bishops Cleeve for secondary though rather than Winch

Actually, the Royal Oak is one of the reasons we were interested in the house! I can't live anywhere without a good "local".

Why B. Cleeve versus Winchcombe? Do people living out in this area get a shot at Pate's in Cheltenham?

Sorry, busy evening!

I might be a bit out of date, but until recently I know winchcombe school hasn't had a great reputation & is 11-16 rather than 11-18, Pates is an option too I think, tho some say its a bit of an academic hot-house. Cleeve comp in B Cleeve has a good reputation. I think my sis's step children go there from Prestbury...

Thanks!!!!

Making a day of it on Sunday and combining a train trip with lunch and the viewing on the house. Fingers crossed!

Have a lovely time

Can't be specific about schools etc. but I love living in the North Cotswolds! It's a fab place and there is tons going on in Cheltenham which you will be near enough to reach.

How did you get on?

2ManyPimms · 05/12/2006 13:28

Not great. DH "peed in my Cherrios" and said that he couldn't "warm" to the house. It was freaking PERFECT, FFS!!!!!

Still looking.

I'll be looking for a place to settle until I'm dead. Better buy a plot somewhere so I know where I'll be pushing up the daisies!

I think it was either that house or the one next door that got a garden makeover done on some cable channel.

I live not far and actually drove past it the other day from gretton to bishops cleeve!

Where are you at the moment?

2ManyPimms · 05/12/2006 21:32

St. Albans. (For the moment!)

NOW, DH has a job interview in Peterborough!

This is really playing with my head. One week, the Cotswolds - the next somewhere else!!!

I think I'll have a little drinkie poo now!
