(You're clearly doing a good job with this magistrates biz, are you on commission?)

I have a first interview on Wednesday to become a mag: what are they going to ask?

Cod can I ask- what is normal for an assualt/ battery sentence? I witnessed a chap beat up his partner (clearly drunk) and threaten to kill her (held her over the Docks to be precise yelling Am Gonna Kill You) it went to court, first time entered no plea, went back as he pleaded guilty- - I ahd given statement as had Dh and Mum but not required. He got 12 month cond. discharge.

Now am not asking you to somment on sentence- just wondered what was the norm, as got letter from witness people today and tbh bit miffed as kids saw it all and were extremely upset by it.

"From domestic crimes to attacks on strangers
David Canter: Analysis

When I was asked to provide an offender profile for an investigation into a series of rapes and murders around London in 1985, I reasoned that a man who attacked women whom he did not know was likely to have been violent towards women he did know. His violence would be caused by his psychology, not a desire to target strangers.

This came as a surprise to some police officers who thought that the offence they then dismissed as ?a domestic? occurred because of the relationship between two individuals ? and would not spill over into attacks on strangers. But when John Duffy was eventually convicted as the Railway Rapist it became clear that his rape of his estranged wife at knife-point, which had put him in police records, was an important indicator of the path on which he was set. That crime was eventually was linked to three murders.

PeachysAreNotAChristmasFruit · 28/11/2006 18:33

Phew, I'm back, in one piece. Interview went quite well, I think. I was a bit nervous, but I hope they'll just take that as interview nerves. Most of the questions were stuff I'd given some thought to (THANK YOU COD!), and I came thinking I'd said most of the things I wanted to say the way I wanted to say them and hadn't said anything I regretted. They did lots of nodding and smiling and agreeing, which may mean something or nothing, I suppose.

Apparently our area bucks the trend and there are many more applicants than places, so it is very competitive. They meet to decide who goes forward to the next round on the 18th December, so I may find out before Christmas, but if they don't get their paperwork sorted it may be mid-January! I'll let you know...
