I want a really organised storage system, but a) dont want to spend alot b) awkward room size/ shape.

I do this for a living and cant for the life of me sort this out in my own damn house. I think its my scrambled 14wks post natal head. Im a closet pedantic about organisation and would love to have specific boxes for each type of toy/activity but on the surface it looks like Im a very very cluttered crazy person right now!

Ive been trying to get dd to keep it organised by tidying each thing as she goes along , but its so all over the place its not easy for her. We have 2 huge footstalls that you have to remove the (quite heavy) lid for and 2 quite big woven boxes with hinged lids and also a 2 door cabinet full of stuff that dd2 will start using soon. Its all full , due to my familys donations of stuff and more stuff !!!!

Idealy would love some big unit thing with nice big baskets in it. Ive looked at the Argos things , but they are going to take over the room.

Me and dh sat this week trying to work it out but nothing seems to be right. What does everyone else do.

I might post a piccy of space to show problemo.

What like? Him getting everything out when he is meant to be in bed?

No, nothing like that. I have got a seperate cupboard full of arts and crafts stuff and wouldn't put pens or the like up there as DD would have a field day though.

Hi, my dd has not tried to get the boxes down without asking, I too don't put paints glue, or things like that in them ,she has crayons and colouring in stuff they are high up in the kitchen cuboard , I did it all when she was at nursery for the day , before that my living room looked a bit like a toy shop in fact the whole flat did and used to drive me mad.

We've got two tall towers with varying sizes of boxes in, they're not too wide and you can store different toys in each one, as the units are taller than me, I put all the messy bitty toys or playdoh toys at the top where they have to ask for it! I also rotate the trays a bit so that the things that are not played with as much are back in view IYSWIM. They're from Ikea and are about £40 ish with extra for the trays, they're really fab and everyone who comes in comments on how useful they are. There's an awful lot of toys for quite a small space! Good luck!

How old is dd? Is she old enough to play in her room some of the time, and is her bedroom big enough to accommodate some of her toys?

Skribble · 25/11/2006 23:35

I have banned all toys from the living room, if I am in a good mood they can do jigsaws at the table . They do tend to take over the table with craft stuff though. (they are 7 and 10).

my house is over run with toys..I keep trying to thin them out, but not good at being roofless!!
Anyone want some peek a blocks?

MammyM · 25/11/2006 23:46

Right here AuntyMandy - if you're serious! My dh threw out my dc's peek a blocks and now they have a baby sister with no peek a blocks to play with .

If any of you have too many toys, why don't you look on one of the christmas threads that was started by Soapbox.

She organising the giving and receiving of gifts to families who really can't afford christmas for their children, for whatever reason.

The first thread has already gone over 1000 posts, so a second one was started.

It really is a lovely feeling to know that you can send something to bring a smile to a childs face!!!!

Go on, give it a go, the more you can send, the less you'll be picking up!!!!!!!

I did the shoebox thing through toddlers. And have thought abought giving more away. But am hugely selfish and hate getting rid of stuff!!!
