Is my pc about to die?

Each time I switch it on it tells me there is a problem with my d drive and goes into Scandisk mode. Tells me there is one bad cluster (man). takes for ages if I ask it to fix it. Usually exit before it completes doing it. But it's doing every time I switch on now. Is this bad news? Is it just time to get a new pc? If not, how do I stop it doing this each time I switch on?

TIA

JUst asked DP for you. He has said time to get a new drive. (The D drive is usually your CD rom drive.)

Cheers MB - that's already a bit technical for me I don't really use my CD rom bit (I don't think), so will it matter?

You may need to replace it to stop getting the messages

Sorry to be a pest but...how does one do that? Do I go into a shop and say I'd like a new d hard drive? Bearing in mind pc was given to me 3 years ago, was then 4 years old and runs on Windows 95 is it time to just bite the bullet an get something new?

Dp has just said that if you are running windows 95 he would be tempted to get something new.

Mmm, I'm no techie but from what you've said I'd agree with MonsieurButterfly, Tinker. There are some excellent deals out there at the mo.

Yes, Marina, think you and MB might be right. Poor little pc

why not take poor pc to a computer shop (see yellow pages for local repairs). it should cost about £45-£50, plus any extra replacements (if it needs something new). the only problem is thay might no be able to have a look at it for you for 5-7 days (that's usually the case around here)

"the only problem is thay might no be able to have a look at it for you for 5-7 days" 5-7 days without a computer!
