a)I don't want one.
b)They wouldn't let me have one if I did.
c)They are wasting trees.
d)They are wasting my time as I dutifully break it all down into recycling/rubbish.
I think they should have to pay me for my inconvenience and their stupidity.
The same goes for loan companies and any type of insurance.

Subscribe to the Mailing Preference Service . Should do the trick.

Put "return to sender" on the envelope and stick it back in the post.

I tend to open them and put something in the reply envelope (not the bit that has my name on it) and send that because it costs them a certain amount just to pay for the return and have someone open the envelope.

TooTickyDoves · 24/11/2006 11:56

I did this a while ago. Do I have to renew it?

I sometimes suspect that the post office just bin the "return to sender" stuff.

Don't think you have to renew it, though it does say that it takes 3 or 4 months for it to kick in. Can you remember when you did it?

TooTickyDoves · 24/11/2006 11:58

I like the idea of using their reply envelope.

More than 3 or 4 months ago. I think the junk did decrease a bit, but it's creeping back.

Fill each others prepaid envelopes with each others literature or send them the latest drawing from your LO. DH does this all the time, not only do they have to pay the postage but they have to pay the admin to proces the mail open it etc!!!

He sends them a chocolate at Xmas time - coffee creams of course!

Ready · 24/11/2006 13:24

This is really sad, and I am not sure I should share this with anyone... but my therapy against these swines is to send all the junk back to them in the freepost envelope provided. I remove anything that has my details on, and even send them the envelope they sent it to me in. It's a complete waste of time, but I like the thought that someone working for their company has to open junk!

A) Stop entering competitions or filling in questionnaires or make sure any form you fill in you tick (or untick) the tiny mailing list box.
b)If you get them from your bank, you can ask your local branch to untick their own mailing list box on your computer file.
c) If you get lots of unaddressed junkmail send your name and address to [email protected]
d) I also scribble 'remove me from your mailing list across the application form, add a date and signature so it's officially 'correspondence' and stick it in the freepost envelope.

Write in large letters REMOVE NAME FROM DATABASE and then place in their prepaid envelope and return. (works 9 tims out of 10 I find...)

expatinscotland · 24/11/2006 14:18

Ticky
can you compost the junk mail?

TooTickyDoves · 24/11/2006 14:20

Don't know. I recycle the letters/forms but bin the envelopes - apparently envelopes contain gums that can mess up the recycling process. I use the reply envelopes as ordinary envelopes though, so I never have to buy any.
