My 5 week old dd wont go to sleep without sucking my dh's finger. He has suggested a dummy to save his finger! Neither of us know much about dummies and i am a little bit nervous, is she too young? Could it interfere with breast feeding? I'd really appreciate some advice.

Oohhh, you're opening a can of worms here. The dummy debate has sparked some furious responses in the past.

Anyway, as far as I am aware, no dummies don't interfere with breast feeding and if your baby only has the dummy at bed/nap times (like my dd) it won't interfere with speech development either. You can get different age dummies, just look on the packaging for a suitable one. Go with what you feel comfortable with, try the dummy and if it works go for it. HTH and good luck I have got a dd who has trouble getting to sleep so I know how frustrating it can be.

Fine as long as you get the child off it at 6 months. Easiest time to do it ime.

Thanks for the responses, do i take it off her once shes asleep? Really dont have a clue about this! Funnily, she seems perfectly capable of sleep during the day just not at midnight! If anyone knows any alternatives to using a dummy i'd really grateful, i've tried rocking her, feeding her (this sometimes makes her even more upset) even singing (although again this has upset her but it could just be my singing voice!)

Heeheeehee - congratulations to your dd - she has got Daddy wrapped around her little finger (or at least her lips wrapped around his little finger) already.
