We are decorating ds room and need to buy coving tomorrow.

Never done this before, so has anybody any tips for a good, but easy to put up coving? Any advice on how to do put it up?
thanks

The plaster coving is lovely but very heavy and you have to apply the adhesive very thick. The polystyrene stuff looks terrible IMO. But you can get polystyrene covered by paper and this looks just as good as plaster but isn't anywhere near as heavy and you don't need to pin. It's what we always use now after using the plaster stuff first.

It's also a good idea to have a decent saw for cutting the right corners. You'll get plenty wrong.

If Dh was here I'b be able to answer this perfectly as he's a DIY fanatic but from memory the easiest is the polystyrene stuff as it's abit more flexible but the other stuff, (sorry i don't know what it's made of.....I think it's sort plaster coated in papery stuff) looks much nicer.

The adhesive goes on the back of the coving(obviosly) on the flat top and bottom. IIRC you don't put it on the ceiling just on the coving. It's a two person job, one to hold it up and one to ut a small tack (nail) under it to hold it there to dry. If your walls aren't straight then cut the coving into smaller pieces to create a better fit.

Once the adhesive is dry take the tacks out and fill any gaps will filler, let it dry again and paint!

Wow...........quite pleased with myself there.........didn't think I'd remeber all that.

Get timber coving. It paints up nicely. In fact paint all the coats but the last one before you put it up.
