Our classics teacher brought in home made fudge for us at Christmas, she was very sweet. I like the idea of all the demure classics teachers spending their holidays at Bacchanalian orgies. They deserved it after the shit they had to put up with all term

and at the mental image of Auntie M dancing naked around a burning effigy. It wouldn't surprise me, she was utterly bonkers and never threw anything away. MrE had to clear the house out after she died...there was some sort of liquified meat in a container in the fridge, cans in the larder with use by dates in the 1950s, some of which had already exploded and a cupboard stuffed full of bags and packaging within packaging that it took him literally all day to empty.

YY to the poems about Lesbia - teaching a bunch of uninterested teens is never easy but I do feel sorry for the teacher! We only did Latin because our head was a classics scholar - the other local schools didn't do it. I feel a bit guilty for thinking he was a bellend at the time
