DD2 is 8.5 mths old but shes very tiny. At her 7mth check-up she was 14.8lb.

Shes now really bored in her first stage seat as she can't see anything so toniht I put her in the maxi cosi between the other two in the back and she was much happier. I put it in the most reclined position.

Is this OK or should I stick with the rear-facing one for longer?

Thanks

I'd keep her reversed I'm afraid - it has been proven to be safer even in those weighing more than 9 kg. dd wasn't heavy enough to turn until about 15 months. We did long journeys but she was fine. Had a window mobile for her and would put other toys and books around for her to look at. She was happier when someone sat next to her.

Sorry LIZS to contradict, but dd2 was less than 9kg, and only 6months when I put her forward facing (fully reclined).
I was told it was all to do with their weight AND the strength of their neck and back. Basically, if they can sit steadily, and unaided on the floor, they are probably strong enough. I also felt the larger seat sat more securely in my car. As an extra my passenger seat (which is rarely used)is slid as far forward as poss.

Katherine, the choice is yours!

Who told you that, tillymint? As far as I'm aware all the manufacturers of carseats say that you should wait until your baby reaches AT LEAST 9 kg.
Have a look at this site, too

I had a bit of a nightmare with car seats and a large DS who couldn't sit properly. Britax were totally adamant that they need to be over 9kgs & able to sit unsupported for half an hour. Neither on their own is OK according the them.
