i'm not scared of hairdressers, in fact i like having my hair cut, find it really relaxing. the only time i found it scary was when the hairdresser in question obviously didn't have a clue what she was doing and made a complete mess of my hair. i tried growing it for months after but in the end went short for a while just so i had it cut into a proper style. nowadays, i just have a dry trim, prefer washing and drying it myself afterwards than be looked at oddly because i say no to all their offers of gunk to be put on my hair.

has anyone been watching celebrity scissorhands though?. steve strange is scary when he's cutting hair. his hands are so shakey. i've been cringing watching him, its only a matter of time before he cuts someones ear off

I was going to say I do not believe any hairdresser is called Jock. Jock!

But then I saw this is in NZ.

Jock ... mmmm mmmmm .... Jock ....

Im scared because they get carried away and do not understand "not a bob!".

I go about once every 2 years, and get a friend to trim it in between.
I hate it. Never been to the same one twice. I have lots of earrings and every single one catches them and almost rips my ear of, so I am permanently tense.
I'm very shortsighted and feel naked without my glasses on.
Nothing good about it. I'd rather go to the dentist!

In mitigation today I have found a lovely hairdresser.

her first question to me was "Do you enjoy coming to the hairdresser?"

We chatted about teh fact that teh mirrors are horrible and she agreed but said they need to use them when cutting & it is more difficult without.

She then gave me loads of tips abuot how to blow dry my hair at home, how to use GHDs to actually curl your hair, as well as straighten it, and not one mention of holidays, kids or what I do for a living.

I think I may have uncovered a diamond.

Oh and I liked my hair afterwards too.

The only downside is, it was the most expensive haircut I've ever had.

I only like my hair when my sister cuts it. Trouble is her DH is a diplomat so she's always going off to Indonesia or Romania or somewhere & I am forced to go to a real hairdresser. Actually when she was in France I managed to visit often enough to keep it looking reasonable. I could also say 'Oh yes I always go to Paris to get my hair done'

Have just found a hairdresser who has stopped me being scared.
But have been for years, because they smirk at your ideas and do their own thing. Or you ask their opinion and they don't help you. or they snip you or burn you with a drier.

Ds also hates it.

Are there any lovely hairdressing MNers out there? We'd love to hear from you!
