For not checking dd's book bag. She had a notice put in there on Monday telling us that on Thursday the school finished at 3pm because there was a Christmas fayre in the village hall with Santa and presents for the kids.

But of course I didn't know this! So I left work at usual at 3.15 and went to get ds, at the nursery they said "Oh have you got then?" Apparently the school had been trying to get hold of me and poor dd was sat in school by herself whilst the other kids had gone to the fayre with their parents! I rushed over and apologise, the headmistress said she'd tried my home number, my mobile (dh has it) and my work number (I'd already left). She asked if I'd not got the notice from school and I said of course not! I'd not seen the note all about it! I rummaged through dd's book bag and there was the note!

I ran to the village hall with them both but we'd missed FC and his presents. dd told this little old lady that she'd missed FC because her mummy was working and was late to pick her up etc etc, the lady gave me such a look! And then rummaged through to find a present for dd and ds, telling her little old lady friends all about my poor neglected children!

But we did win a box of biscuits in the raffle!

Think it's only a matter of time before we all do something like that

Can I have a choccie biscuit to go with my tea please?

Rhubarb · 17/11/2006 09:51

They're chocolate, no jammy ones I'm afraid!

I did feel very very bad at the time and dd perfected her hangdog look!

ooo it'll do her good - they see far too much of santa far too early for my liking.

Choc chip cookie pls.

danceswithmonkeys · 17/11/2006 09:54

well you didn't mention they were chocolate, I'll have that one with a wafer thin slice of biscuit in the middle and a good 1cm thick layer of chocolate all over

In all the time the DCs have been at school, I have only ever missed one event - which was an open afternoon where you could go in and look at their work and do some activities with them.

I hadn't even noticed it was on.

My DD took it on the chin, but my DS was distraught! 'I waited and waited for you, everytime the doorbell went, I thought it was you, all teh other mummies were there' etc etc.

I cried for a whole evening!

Working and school sucks at times!

Go on, pass me a biscuit - any shortcakes going

geekgrrl · 17/11/2006 09:54

I must say - don't think your transgression was as bad as organising a santa & presents party in mid-November.

Rhubarb · 17/11/2006 09:59

She doesn't even believe in Santa!
But poor dd having to sit in school whilst all the other kids got picked up by parents and taken to the fayre! I'm feeling sorry for her all over again now!

Well on Wednesday I woke up late so dcs were 40 mins late for school. Bad enough, but school shut early that day and I'd completely forgotten till the School Secretary phoned me 20 mins after the bell had gone to ask if I intended to pick them up. .

Am ashamed to say this was one of the few days I was working from home too!

Bloody book bags! There are the bane of my life. I swear they are a portal into a parallel universe where vitally important stuff vanishes for days on end, turning up just in time to catch me out and convince everyone else it was there all the time and I just screwed up.
