The other day I heard that DD2's teacher had been seen throwing work folders and paperwork at the children whilst they were sat waiting to come home.

I didn't do anything until I saw it myself and got there early yesterday, and sure enough, she was sat throwing files and folders at the children

I went in and when no-one else was around asked her if she could refrain from doing it as I am always trying to teach dd it's dangerous to throw and also one of dd's friends has problems with throwing, he can't seem to contain himself and is constantly getting into trouble.

Do you think I was right in having a word, or should I have left it?

Hmmm, I don't know. But as I teacher I never threw children's work and books. Mainly as I didn't want them to start doing it too! This was secondary though.

danceswithmonkeys- do you want to start a club with me! I need a job share..
I am very accurate and as a result of my whizzing all my kids have exceptionally good hand eye co-ordination. They are catching at significantly above the national average. I was mentioned in a recent Ofsted report specifically.

I always tell the children not to throw! (Yr1 and Yr2) oh and before someone says I shouldn't be setting them a bad example, children also have to learn that sometimes adults can do things they can't....it's a hard world

Right well I'm off to Oz for 12 months but I'll be back!
I prefer the end of the week and don't mind year 1 or 2.

I throw things too, as part of a game e.g. a beanbag for answering Qs, but I think throwing folders at foundation stage is a bit different!!

you did the right thing in bringing this to her attention.

I once witnessed a new teacher (teaching 5year olds) and a child had done something wrong, (written the date in the wrong place!) and the teacher ripped the page out of his book and screwed it up, the child, whilst no angel, looked absolutely crushed!

I had a quiet frendly word with the head making it clear it was just my observation and not an official complaint. Problem sorted.
