Oh no another Princess Party

DD1 (2.5) has just recieved another invitation to a princess party. Last one we went to should have had 'Disney Princess Party' on the invite as probably 80% of the girls there had the real deal Belle/Cindrella/Aurora dresses on. DD1 had her bridesmaids dress (too tight) and a bit of plastic tat from Claires accessories on her head. So do I cave in (unable to do up zip of bridesmaids dress), and purchase some horrible, overpriced, flammable, made in Taiawn dress from the Disney store ....or do I embrace my Victorian (we never had that in my day) values and send DD in a nice dress with some plastic tat on her head from Claires accessories??? Oh any advice out there would be gratefully recieved!

I agree, At the recent parties DD has been too there were mainly Disney but also one or two girls either in dressed as something else (fairy) or just in a pretty frilly dress. None of the 4 and 5 year olds commented or anything at all; they were too busy playing.

dd is 5, never been invited to a Princess party... I've never before even heard of one, I reckon.
Maybe it's me who lives in the different universe from everyone else!

I did promise dd1 a princess dress once but when we got to the shop she asked for a tiger outfit instead. she's worn that to lots of parties.

This will be DD1's 3rd Princess Party invite since the summer. I really don't mind the whole dressing up bit as little girls on the whole do just love putting on something pretty. I guess I just feel it's a shame that even as such an early age (3) some of the little girls are insisting that it HAS to be a disney dress they wear (and their parents just HAVE to buy one for them). My Mum has a very embarrasing photo of me when I was about 3 heading off to a party in simply the most hideous brown and cream frilly full length dress...the look on my face is pure joy, I thought I looked so bloody fantastic. I suppose I would just like my little girl to feel that way and not be worrying if she's in the 'right' dress. God she's got years of that ahead of her anyway when she reaches 6.
