I care about it all.

I mind if I make a typo (I don't lose sleep over it, but it irks me mildly).

I almost never make a spelling mistake - I'd say 99.9% of stuff I post is spelt correctly.

Grammar...mine's good, but I write as I speak, usually.

And text speak is just horrible. Why use it when you have a whole keyboard at your disposal?! It's not actually even quicker when texting if you use predictive text!

Having said that, I would never leap on someone (apart from somebody I know to be a fellow pedant ) for misspelling something. And if a post is in text speak, I just don't bother reading it - I can't be arsed. Same goes for "unparagraphed" posts - like wading through treacle, those!

CountessDracula · 15/11/2006 23:18

Ooh I love a typo, me.

Tortington · 15/11/2006 23:18

typro = lazyness
grammar = poor edumication

ok, ok i'm so busted!

So what about posting without words?
I am very guilty of that

bluejelly · 15/11/2006 23:23

None of it bothers me ( probably because I make lots of mistakes, though mostly typos) but I HATE HATE HATE when people post very long posts without paragraphs or line breaks.

Sorry just had to get that off my chest.

Tortington · 15/11/2006 23:28

Talking of typos, have you seen Cod's contribution to the Grandparents/nativity plays thread? One to treasure

TheHighwayCod · 16/11/2006 12:14

wot about it

expatinscotland · 16/11/2006 12:17

I agree w/bluejelly.

LOOOOONNGGG posts w/no paragraphs or line breaks I cannot be arsed reading.

Call me a snob, but I don't read posts in txtspk or with naff abbreviations like 'LO' for child.

AitchTwoOh · 16/11/2006 12:22

but does anyone care about not capitalising at the beginning of sentences? it's obviously somethign i don't give a shit about.

and look how i typo-ed something... i do that so often it no longer looks wrong to me. Luckily MS Word cleans it up for me at work.

poppynic · 16/11/2006 12:27

I think sentences with initial capitals are easier to read faster because then you don't need to rely on picking up the full stops. What I'm never sure about is whether I should re-post with corrected typing or is that more annoying than just leaving as it? is?

iota · 16/11/2006 12:31

I am a great speller, I am a poor typist - I can't be arsed to correct my typing all the time especially in "chat" topics. Sometimes I can't even be arsed to capitalise.

And I don't puntuate properly either - this is 'stream of consciousness' stuff

And I sometimes start sentences with And

Time and a place and all that

AitchTwoOh · 16/11/2006 13:17

and so do i, iota.

take your point about the full stops, poppy nic, that's why i like to press enter a lot.

iota · 16/11/2006 13:26

Glad it's not just me Aitch - gawd - I'm not writing a bleeding essay or a business proposal

Ellbell · 16/11/2006 13:29

It's hard to avoid typos 100% of the time, however pedantic you may be. And sometimes, even if you check back through what you've written, the typo doesn't leap out at you (I have a habit of writing 'univeristy' and I regularly fail to notice it, and they don't come much more pedantic than me...!)

MN is a chat room and I don't get too hung up about spelling and grammar on here (with the exception of txt spk, which I just can't understand, so I give up...). A chat is a chat. I overuse brackets and ellipses on here and in emails etc. But bad spelling, grammar and punctuation winds me up in 'official' communications, published material, etc.

doggiesayswoof · 16/11/2006 13:34

I wince at spelling and grammar mistakes (especially my own)
I am 100% with pruni early on in this thread about txtspk and no paragraphs etc.
But typos are fine on here imo.
I don't text in textspeak - can't bring myself to do it.

I blame the parents - mine - they are both teachers

AitchTwoOh · 16/11/2006 13:52

oh yes, i am (by my own admission) a terrible abuser of the parenthesis and ellipsis...

drosophila · 16/11/2006 14:30

Doggie, why are typing errors ok but not spelling errors? I do both and to me they are both errors. Why is one ok but not the other? You see I am sure people who are good at spelling think that poor spellers are just lazy.
